The Dolph Lundgren appreciation thread

He was never his big of a star as Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Van Damme or Segal. But he's had some pretty iconic roles for the most part. Ivan Drago, He-Man, Andrew Scott, The Punisher, Gunnar Jensen.

He's worked with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Brandon Lee, Louis Gossett Jr, Van Damme, Keanu Reeves and the Coen Brothers.

He's also one of the very few actors who can say they've been active in the business across three decades. Now he occasionally directs and I can't lie I think his movies are pretty entertaining and I would love to see what he could do with a bigger budget. Too bad it seems like he screwed up his post Expendables fame.

Honestly I think he's really underrated and he definitely ran into difficulty in his career after Masters under performed and the next couple movies he did went straight to video after the studios went belly up.

Whoah...at first I thought he passed away, but I see that you are just a major Lundgren fan, I can dig it. I may even check out Kindergarten Cop 2 because he is in the film (the reviews for KC 2 are not good, but Dolph Lundgren...so yeah).

Him and Van Damme in Universal Soldier...action bliss, I love this film.

I like this one, even though I still confuse the title with the Kurt Russell movie.

RIP, loved you in Hard Target.

Eh, never hated him in anything, but never liked him all that much. But I'm sure he'd be a good guy to have dinner and drinks with. Maybe a little dancing after if the vibe is right.

I would say he's only a slightly better actor than Chuck Norris.

On the plus side, though, he's a 3rd Dan in Kyokushin karate (which is pretty hardcore), he has a master's degree in chemical engineering, and he was Grace Jones' bodyguard/romantic partner. That's a pretty cool resume.

Anyone who can walk away from a Grace Jones bang session has my respect.

He sings, dances, plays the drums, and breaks plywood and giant ice blocks in the span of 2 minutes.

Maybe the most epic thing I've ever seen.

Dolph is cool, and is good to follow on Facebook. He is doing a lot of charity work with victims of slave trade after he did the film Skin Trade. The topic really resonated with him. Hopefully he gets cast as King Randor in the new He-Man film.

Been a fan since Rocky IV and for some odd reason, was always fascinated by how smart he is.
I really dont know why he was never a big action star like the others. I will says this though ...

Is there any way we can get that video in HD? Or possibly blu-ray or UHD? I'll pay money for that.

Probably because he couldn't act and Arnold already had the muscular guy/bad actor theme already covered.

I think he is a very cool cat. He is always entertaining in movies and i think in a lot of stuff he shows a lot of charisma. I loved his Punisher movie, Universal Soldier is easily one of his best and a lot of fun, and Dark Angel (I Come in Peace) is superb in its B movie Predator rip off way.

Re: The Dolph Lundgren appreciation thread

I tried to watch Kindergarten Cop 2 since it was on Netflix and couldn't make it past the first 15 minutes. I hope gets back to some more action stuff, he would make a pretty cool Bond henchman like Batista was in Spectre.

Re: The Dolph Lundgren appreciation thread

Dolph has been treated for cancer since 2015

Swedish actor, filmmaker and martial artist Dolph Lundgren discloses that he’s been working with medical professionals to treat cancerous tumors since 2015 and at one point, he was told he had two to three years left to live. Thankfully, Dolph sought a second opinion and was put on a treatment that quickly shrank his numerous tumors, by as much as 90% last year.

Wow, had no idea. The most recent health shakeup he had was having ankle surgery, or something to effect of ankle replacement surgery. He was out of commission for a while due to the recovery time of that surgery.

Re: The Dolph Lundgren appreciation thread

I hope he comes through it all ok. Best wishes to him.

I’ve always enjoyed his movies but I’ve never been a huge fan. I never thought he was the best actor…of course, I also thought he was a legit Russian for about 20 years so he was obviously better than I thought.

Him being a chemical engineer was just another surprise I never would have thought from him.

Keep on keeping on, Dolph!

Damn, I was unaware of his cancer issues. I hope he manages full remission.
