In Olivier Assayas' new drama "Personal Shopper," Kristen Stewart stars as Maureen, a young American woman living in Paris who professionally runs errands for media celebrities. Her twin brother recently died in Paris from a debilitating heart problem that Maureen shares; they made an oath that whomever died first would send the other a sign from beyond the grave. On her off time, Maureen searches for signs from her brother and soon discovers some eerie encounters in her life. A study of grief and urban alienation, Assayas' "Personal Shopper" received some boos at its Cannes premiere, but has nevertheless mostly received positive critical acclaim. "Personal Shopper" also stars Lars Eidinger ("Everyone Else"), Sigrid Bouaziz ("Pour la France"), Anders Danielsen Lie ("Oslo, 31 August"), and more. Watch the trailer for the film above.

Olivier Assayas' stunning body of work includes such essential films as "Cold Water," "Irma Vep," "Demonlover," "Clean," and the TV miniseries "Carlos. Kristen Stewart first came to prominence with her starring role in the "Twilight" film franchise; her other films include Greg Mottola's "Adventureland," Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland's "Still Alice," and Assayas' last film "The Clouds of Sils Maria." Her upcoming films include Kelly Reichardt's "Certain Women," which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, and Woody Allen's "Café Society," which opened the Cannes Film Festival this year.

"Personal Shopper" will be released by IFC Films.

I thought Clouds of Sils Maria was excellent, so I'll see this. Apparently it got booed at Cannes.

Doesn't everything?

The reviews are pretty evenly split, has a 60% so far, with a lot of praise for Stewart.

If I saw that poster without the reviewer blurbs (and without knowing the basic plot), I'd avoid that movie.

Saw it on Saturday. I liked it overall but not nearly as much as I enjoyed Clouds of Sils Maria.

Re: Personal Shopper (D: Assayas) S: Kristen Stewart

I saw it last night. I'm not really sure what to make of it to be honest...

I can't remember the last time I saw someone walk out of a film, but it happened with this one.

Re: Personal Shopper (D: Assayas) S: Kristen Stewart

Saw this last night. Clouds of Sils Maria was definitely a better flick, but this wasn't bad. I doubt I'd want to see it again, though, even with some unanswered questions about the end. I liked how the characters discussed the subject matter. The extended texting scenes were annoying, only because I kept wanting her to silence her damn phone! The constant Apple-clicking-sound is obnoxious.

I think the only thing that would make this worth seeing are Kristen Stewart's tits.

Re: Personal Shopper (D: Assayas) S: Kristen Stewart

Olivier Assayas never disappoints and he gets another impressive performance from Kristin Stewart. Who would have thought the she and Robert Pattinson would be in two of the best acted roles of 2017.

4/5

Yeah, I liked the film a lot. It only cost 1 million to make, too. My favorite Assayas film is still Carlos, though.

The entire thing is about 5 hours or so. Ramirez should have won an Oscar.

Re: Personal Shopper (D: Assayas) S: Kristen Stewart

Actually not a bad film. And, yes, K-Stew's tits are fabulous.

It's weird, from the title I assumed it was going to some kind of light romcom or chick flick, not an arty sort-of ghost story.

Re: Personal Shopper (D: Assayas) S: Kristen Stewart

Love this movie. Got the Criterion BD in the mail today in fact. Plan on watching it again tonight. It made a few year end top 10 lists including Time Magazine. I also thought it was one of 2017's best. It's funny, I never paid any attention to Stewart during all those awful "Twilight" films. But all that changed after "The Runaways". And then "Clouds of Sils Maria". But "Personal Shopper" is her best work to date IMO.
