Daddy's Home 2 (2017, D: Anders) Ferrell, Wahlberg, Gibson, Lithgow, Cardellini, Cena
EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures and Gary Sanchez Productions have set a sequel to Daddy’s Home, the crowd-pleasing comedy which opened last Christmas and turned in a $240 million worldwide gross. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have signed to reprise their mismatched buddy characters. Sean Anders and John Morris are also returning to write the script and Anders to direct. The studio is keeping the logline under wraps.
No word on a reprise for the rest of the original cast that included Hannibal Buress, Linda Cardellini and Thomas Haden Church. The picture became the highest offshore gross of any picture Ferrell has made.
Ferrell’s repped by UTA and Mosaic, Wahlberg by WME and Leverage, Anders by UTA and Mosaic, and Morris by CAA and Mosaic.

Talk about a movie that doesn't need a sequel. Though... if they do bring in John Cena from the ending of the first, that could be a positive.

and make it so that Cena's character in Daddy's Home and Pazuzu in Sisters are one in the same. *BAM* cinematic universe!

Geez, really? The first movie had barely any laughs at all and somehow managed to make a tidy sum. It definitely doesn't need a sequel, though.

We watched the first one a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty funny (being a little drunk probably helped). So I'm down for a second one.

I thought the film played things way too safe, with the basketball scene the only real standout in terms of laughs. The rivalry should have been utterly ridiculous instead of the friendly game of one-upping it was. I expected laughs like The Other Guys, which you should watch.

What movie did YOU see!? I didn't laugh once And yes, they had chemistry in "The Other Guys", not this. Which was laugh out loud funny for me.

It's the Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Samuel L Jackson, and The Rock action comedy version of The Big Short (same director).
The reason this is getting a sequel and that isn't likely has to do with Daddy's Home having a $50m budget (just $8m less than Deadpoopl) and grossing $240m worldwide vs The Other Guys having a $100m budget and grossing $170m world wide.

EXCLUSIVE: John Cena, the WWE champ who has been transitioning to movies with Trainwreck and Daddy’s Home, has signed on to co-star in the Daddy’s Home sequel about to get underway in Boston. Cena served up a macho cameo at the end of the first film, and this time he figures prominently in the sequel storyline.
He joins Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Mel Gibson, John Lithgow, Linda Cardellini, Owen Vaccaro and Scarlett Estevez in the Paramount comedy. In the sequel, father and stepfather, Dusty (Wahlberg) and Brad (Ferrell), are now working together to give their kids a perfect Christmas. When Dusty’s Dad (Gibson) and Brad’s Dad (Lithgow) arrive, their blended family conflicts rise to the surface. Cena’s character shifts the macho dynamics as Dusty faces the challenges of being a stepfather in the face of a more ripped rival.
Sean Anders is directing a script he wrote with John Morris. Gary Sanchez’s Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Kevin Messick are producing with Morris. The original 2015 comedy grossed $240 million worldwide.
Cena is repped by ICM Partners.

Re: Daddy's Home 2 (2017, D: Anders) Ferrell, Wahlberg, Gibson, Lithgow, Cardellini,
Cena was pretty darn funny in Trainwreck.
I'll likely see this, thought the first was humorous enough, but I agree with others that The Other Guys is a better vehicle and funnier film for the duo. Daddy's Home had decent laughs but nowhere near as funny as The Other Guys (not even close).

Has the original movie ever hit cable, as I haven't seen it ever on HBO, Showtime, Starz?
