A Monster Calls (2016, D: Bayona) (S: S. Weaver, F. Jones, L. Neeson, etc)

A young boy (Lewis MacDougall) escapes into a fantasy world of monsters and fairy tales as a way to cope with his mother's (Felicity Jones) illness and bullies at school.

Spain release is 10/7/16. So yay for them. Apparently it's a book. I THINK I've heard of it. But can't say shit about it. Looks interesting.

How was the book for ya'll?

I was just checking this out too after the JW announcement. He's a pretty clutch director so far... so I will check out his work. The Impossible is the best movie you'll never want to see again.

I KNOW I would like it... it just hasn't hit my price range.

Well... it did.. but I didn't get it for some reason during Amazon's BF sales. Damn you, Snake. Damn you to Mexican Hell.

Which is what? $8ish range on Amazon Marketplace: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...1005877&sr=8-1

Also available on GoHastings... https://gohastings.com/product/MOVIE.../290920302.uts -- There is a 18% discount today which will knock off shipping essentially. Even better on a future sale most likely.

Dude is hit or miss with me. The Orphange was decent but The Impossible was IMO heavy handed manipulative garbage. He's working with a different writer on this so who knows.

Saw this last night. some really cool segments, like the animated bits, but also parts that dragged on. You'll know where it is going about 1/3 of the way there, but the ending added a little wrinkle I didn't expect. Overall I liked it, but I don't know if i'll ever want to watch it again.

If you want a mature, thoughtful and emotional movie - go check this out. Saw it at TIFF and loved it... hit me really hard and was basically sobbing through the end so I probably won't see this again anytime soon but fantastic visuals and interesting themes. I honestly think it's too dark for anyone under 13. Neeson was awesome as The Monster and I liked that he was actually scary and the stories he tells the boy have excellent animation. I think they totally screwed up by moving this out of October though, not sure it will find an audience.

I have no idea who this movie was made for. People who like to cry, i guess. This is the opposite of "the feel good movie of the season," in my opinion.
This will join the list of 'movies that made me cry and I dont want to watch again" along with The Lovely Bones and My Dog Skip.
