how can i comment on the spoilered stuff?

lets just say the second one might be ok. the first reminds me of a cheese wheel. because it's .... cheesy.

i do wonder tho if believability does and should factor into film making. in the lost world for example, there's no doubt that a cool idea never made it to screen with the chameleon predatory dinosaur (whose name i recollect not). but there are a few other reasons i can think of why it didn't make it.

i dunno. i wouldn't budget them more than, what, 30-40? i wish i knew something about production costs, but i dont see this making more than 100 million at the BO.

Jan De Bont is directing? This will either be something on the lines of Twister or Tomb Raider 2.

to comment on the spoiler stuff read the sticky at the top of this forum and it will show you how to use spoiler tags, most of the stuff I said was from the second book but I just did spoiler tags in case anyone got upset.

I see Steve Alten is piggybacking off of Jaws.

Oh my... knew this was going to happen... this book was cheesy (but a fun read) and had "SciFi Original movie of the week" written ALL OVER IT.

I use to frequent CHUD a couple of years ago and I recall Nick hyping this a bit, but I never bought into it. The premise seems mediocre at best. About 6 months ago I ran across the book in the library and checked it out but gave up shortly after starting it because it seemed too hacky.

That said, two of my favorite B-movies are Deep Rising and Tremors, which had weak premises but good execution. However, de Bont hasn't directed a good movie since Speed, and a couple of them are outright turds.

I bought "The Trench" last year a discount book joint then realized it was a sequel and put it away. I picked up the 1st book in the series "MEG" a few weeks ago and I'm just starting to read it. I didn't know a 3rd book came out. Anyway, I'm interested in Megaladons because the very idea of something like that scares the shit out of me.

With that said, I have a hard time believing any movie could do the Creature justice. But who knows....

I thought "Meg" was a rather fun book, and I liked "The Trench" even better. They're literary junk-food, but I really love junk food. I've been pulling for this movie to get made, just because I'm a shameless whore for SHARK MOVIES! Plus Mr. Alten and I went to the very same high school, so I wanna root for the local boy.

I'd agree that Jan de Bont's participation doesn't exactly inspire a whole lot of confidence, but I'm still pretty optimistic about this flick. Hell it's gotta be better than Shark Attack 3: Megalodon! Ha.

Sums up my thoughts as well. I'm definitely looking forward to this!

Wasn't there supposed to be a sequel to Deep Blue Sea? Whatever happened to that?

Back on topic: I've never heard of this book. Hope the film is decent.

This film is going to suck.

Evidence;

I don't know if the makers of Tomb Raider need to die or anything, but I certainly wouldn't mind if they were sent to Hell for a stretch to accept different sharp objects in their ass from Satan himself... no one in their right mind would consider their audience so painfully stupid that they'd unleash this pile of tainted sperm upon them. But they did, so I say let them get the underworld colon coaster. Serves them right.

Piss and shit are jealous of Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

This [de Bont] is the man who was to make Godzilla before Emmerich and Devlin and would HAVE DONE A WORSE JOB!
And my personal favourite;

Jan De Bont on Tomb Raider 2? Well at least they've tied a pissworthy director to a toilet devouring flick.
Who made these comments? None other than Chud's crooked proprietor and producer of Meg... Nick Nunziata!

i really don't think criticizing tomb raider 2 supports the theory that you're a bad filmmaker.

Anybody heard about the movie MEG that comes out in 2007?

I was flipping through the possible releases for 2007 at imdb and came across this. I read the book MEG a couple of years ago and it was interesting. Nothing like an 80ft prehistoric shark creating mayhem. I've always heard that it would be made into a movie but never really believed it.

Well, it now seems that Jan De Bont is directing with a significant budget($80 Million). Also, if you go to the MEG board on IMDB apparently Steve Alten(author) and the guy from the CHUD are on there answering questions about the production. This will definately be on my must watch list. Now i know that release dates are very shaky but when you add this movie in with the possible other 2007 releases, then damn 2007 looks awesome; here's a few:

Transformers
MEG
Harry Potter 5
Spider Man 3
Shrek 3
Chronicals of Narnia 2
Fantastic Four 2
Indiana Jones 4
Halo
Believe it or Not
Ocean's 13
Pirates of the Carribean 3

Ah, the Jurassic Park meets Jaws movie.

It seems like it is getting made...I always enjoy monster movies. But Jan De Bont is a horrible filmmaker and hasn't made a good movie since...err...Speed? I guess Twister was ok.

So...well...we'll see.

there is only one movie to be looking forward to in 2007, and that movie is Battle Angel.

edit: fuck it's pushed back to 2009. it'll be worth the wait.

There's been talk here on dvdtalk about MEG. I've read the 1st book of the "trilogy" and it was cool. It's actually kind scary from a "what would you do if you were in the water with that beast...what could you do?" kind of way.

I've started the 2nd book a while back but I got busy with some other things. I can't imagine where the 3rd book goes with the Meg Story line.
