Who would you like to see become the next James Bond?

I'm not sure why Bond is being singled out to change the race of its main character. We're getting another white Tarzan this summer, another Indian boy in The Jungle Book, and have had at least 3 recent versions of Sherlock Holmes that have been all white men. Why couldn't any of those be played by a black actor? How about a black Batman or Superman for a change?

I can't say much about The Jungle Book but it's a bit of a outside human culture period piece, no? It's set in the late 1800s, unless there's some date attached to it. I'm not sure how important that is... but it does add a lot to it for the sake of variety. Also.. the region it's based in. Again.. not sure how important that is but for the sake of not having enough non white roles as it is... it's best not to take that away either.
in the case of some comic book heroes, iconically they're defined as visuals for decades. They're iconic in that template. Their skin color is as important as the color of their costumes over the years in terms of recognizing who one is looking at.
Is Deadshot important to be white? No. He's not known much w/o the mask. Is Johnny Storm? No. Cuz w/o the flames he's nothing that audience knows immediately. If you're a comic fan.. sure.. blonde guy in FF suit. That's torch. But... there's no iconic look of him for that. It's the flames that matter.

I think Henry Cavill or Fassbender would make good Bonds, I love Cumberbacht just dont think he would fit the part Richard Armitage would do well too i think.

How can a Scottish character suddenly become Australian? Then English, Welsh, Irish, and back to English again?

Kung fu star Jimmy Wang Yu played a Bond-like secret agent in a Hong Kong-Japanese co-production made at Shaw Bros. in 1966, ASIAPOL SECRET SERVICE. He was pretty terrible. Read this review:

Yaphet Kotto agrees.
Quote:
James Bond cannot be black. Political correctness be damned, we have to stay with what is literally correct. He was established by Ian Fleming as a white character, played by white actors. It’s silly. Play 003 or 006 but you cannot be 007. A lot of people say we should be allowed to play everything. Don’t be ridiculous. If I say I want to play JFK I should be laughed out the room. Why should James Bond be black? It’s silly.
I don’t think it’s right for black actors or writers to do roles that whites have made historically white heroic roles. These roles are not written for black men. Black men should stop trying to play white heroes. We have pens. Put a black man in a role that no one else has established.

Re: Bond 25 (2019, D: Boyle) -- News, rumors, etc.
Take this report with a grain of salt, but Barbara Broccoli, Bond's Producer, supposedly had a conversation with Antoine Fuqua and said she's interested in hiring a black James Bond after Craig finishes this movie. Apparently Idris Elba would be the frontrunner.

Nothing even remotely official about this, just Fuqua spilling some beans from an off the record conversation he had.

Oh Jesus! Enough with Elba talk. The guy will be pushing 50 by the time the next Bond film rolls around. Not exactly what studios want to see when starting a new series in a franchise.
I’m guessing Barbara Broccoli was doing nothing more than trying to stoke a black director’s interest in a future project.

New Idris Elba as James Bond Rumor Is "All Made Up Stuff"
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...-stuff-1133979
Fuqua was said to have mentioned Idris Elba in conversation. "You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that," was how the Star quotes what the Fuqua "pal" said the director had told Broccoli.
But a rep for Fuqua threw cold water on the story. "He never had a conversation with Barbara about the franchise or about any casting. It’s all made up stuff. Not sure how it got started," the rep told The Hollywood Reporter.
A rep for Elba declined comment, but a knowledgeable source says no one from Elba’s team is aware of any overtures.
