Sing Street (2016, D: John Carney)

A boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s escapes his strained family life by starting a band and moving to London.
Saw this trailer the other day.
I love John Carney's work, so I will definitely check this out.

I went to the free screening last night and loved it. If you're a fan of of John Carney's other films you will not be disappointed (though I think Begin Again is still my favorite).
If you're a fan of '80s alternative/new wave, were in a band growing up, tried to impress a girl, this movie is for you. It really made me reminisce about playing in a garage band and playing shows during my teen years and WHY you do that. It really captures something.
I highly recommend checking this out when it gets released next month.

I think they're trying to spread word of mouth. They believe in the movie, reviews are stellar, but probably don't know how to market effectively.

Yeah, I'm glad to see they're pushing this because while I'm a fan of Once, Begin Again slipped in and out of theaters without my being aware of it, and now I've seen it multiple times on video. There is a market for this kind of movie, but you have to work a little harder to find it. I just happened to read about this over the weekend and am hoping I'll be able to see it when/if it hits my area.

Enjoyed this one quite a bit.
Music had me tapping my feet. Laughed at their attempt at a music video. It was very reminiscent of some of the crappy music videos of the early 80's.

See this now! Just wonderful. Sublime. Had a grin from ear to ear till end. John Carney hits a homerun with this one. Such an incredible mix of everything i love about music and movies. Think i liked it better than Once. And i loved Once. this was just so enjoyable. can't wait to see it again. too bad about the skimpy Bluray extras...

I've got this coming in the mail from Netflix. I'm excited to watch it. I'm a big John Carney fan. I loved Once and Begin Again.

I just finished watching this and I think it's the best movie that I have seen so far this year. Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton, and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo were all great in this.

What a fun movie! I admit, I was taken aback by the fact that the band almost immediately sounds professional and Conor goes from tone deaf to a talented singer overnight. But then I realized it was sort of a fantasy film and not meant to be a realistic account of a garage band. Because anyone who's ever tried to start a band knows how long it takes to get good. The sudden musical ability also allows the band to write songs and cultivate the looks and styles of many of the 80s bands, which is far more interesting than watching yet another account of amateur musicians struggling to develop.
