The Take (aka Bastille Day) -- S: Idris Elba, Richard Madden

Michael Mason (Richard Madden, Game Of Thrones) is an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself in the hands of the CIA when he steals a bag that contains more than just a wallet. Sean Briar (Idris Elba, Avengers: Age Of Ultron), the field agent on the case, soon realizes that Michael is just a pawn in a much bigger game and is also his best asset to uncover a large-scale criminal conspiracy in the heart of the police force.
Going against commands, Briar recruits Michael to help quickly track down the source of the corruption. As a 24hr chase ensues, the unlikely duo discover they are both targets and must rely upon each other in order to take down a common enemy.

This is being released in the UK April 22nd.
It's U.S. release date is TBA. Weird that this takes place in Europe, but has Elba and Madden playing Americans.
Looks pretty cool.

Can't wait until the announce the sequel Bastille Night. This looks okay, reminds me of those Luc Besson produced Euro action flicks.

I know people keep throwing his name around, and yes he's a very good actor. Still it makes zero sense to replace a 47 year old actor in the leading role of a recurring action franchise with a 43 year old one. You need somebody at least ten years younger if you want it to work for a few movies.

Studio Canal, who produced this movie, is asking French theatres to pull the film after the recent Nice tragedy during Bastille Day.
Still no American release date yet.

The terming of "Nice tragedy" keeps messing with my head when I read it, I know it's pronounced Niece but it just doesn't look right.

So I watched this today.
I'd probably give this a B- or C+
Overall it's a pretty by the numbers European action movie. It feels like one of those low budget Luc Besson produced movies of late or a low budget Bourne movie. Kind of weird that it's a French movie with 4 British actors playing Americans. Mostly predictable, but overall a forgettable movie that most won't remember down the road.
Basically Elba is the main reason to watch this. He was pretty badass as the lead. He had some decent fight scenes and his physicality carried the movie. Richard Madden was terrible as the pickpocket who was framed for a terrorist bombing. Kelly Reilly plays Elba's boss and she's wasted in this.
I
when I recognized the singing voice in the closing credits as Elba as well. The movie does feel kind of small for for what is supposed to be a big scale event that rocked Paris. it was a noble attempt and Elba is the main reason that some of it worked.
