Different. You shouldn't really compare.
The tones for the humor are different as well. This one is.. wild, perverse, and playful in whatever nonsense it falls in. War Zone's humor is... well... it plays w/ the graphic and pace of it.
It's not black humor. It's a lot of vocal, slapstick, and visual humor.
They cross some small paths in how they get to it but the aim is different.

This movie was a total blast. Deadpool became popular a little after my comic reading time, so I wasn't too familiar with the character and probably missed some of the in-jokes. But that didn't stop me from loving it.
Also kudos to the marketing team. They were banging on all cylinders - it was probably the best movie marketing I've ever seen - but I was wondering if that would actually put butts in seats. Guess it worked.

Now the projections are saying $41 million Thurs night/Friday with $115 million 4 day weekend: http://deadline.com/2016/02/deadpool...ce-1201699895/
Basically double Fox's original estimates.

Now looking like $130mil :
http://variety.com/2016/film/box-off...rd-1201705528/
The superhero comedy pulled in $47.5 million on Friday (including $12.7 million from Thursday night previews, which set a record for an R-rated film) from 3,558 locations. This puts the film on track to wrap up Presidents Day with more than $130 million.

I wonder how much the marketing was.
They were very unique but also cheap and easy for the ones specifically w/ Reynolds in the suit. Marketing guys must have had so much fun w/ this. To actually bring imagination to marketing.

Doubt it, especially with the character already established with kids knowing who he is and wanting to see him. It would probably create more of a fuss then Deadpool's PG-13 petition.

This is a game changer... certainly for Fox. Fast track Deadpool 2, X-Force, etc. Still time to change Wolverine 3 and Gambit scripts if they want also. Breathes new life into the X-Men universe, unbelievable! Would be pretty funny if this made more than Apocalypse...

Just behind it were 10 Cloverfield Lane and Jason Bourne, which aired 1 ad a piece during the Super Bowl.
Paramount has spent $16.6m on Zoolander 2 with just TV ads in the last 7 days.
On a side note, the most successful ad of the Super Bowl is listed as Puppymonkeybaby, the weirdness apparently drew peoples attention more than any other single ad.

As of mid-week they had spent an estimated $7.2m on TV ads. Primarily on Fox, ESPN and Adult Swim (which as it turns out, is its own channel separate from Cartoon Network) The pre-TV marketing was probably low, as most of it occurred online and was fairly basic. My guess is maybe $15m total advertising.

Probably still made out like bandits (I don't think advertising on AS/Cartoon Network or FOX is particularly expensive, nor post-super bowl ESPN).

I don't know anything about Deadpool really, but I know that this movie was a whole lot of fun. I loved everything about it, with a special shoutout going to the script for being so on point. Good times.
Also, I was happy to see not one small child in the whole theater. Well done parents, well done.

Nothing like assigned IMAX seats next to a family of four with two kids. The boy asked why the unicorn was shooting stuff out of his horn.

Just got back from seeing this. The whole theater was cracking up throughout the entire movie. Reynolds really made this movie work. Everyone else seemed kinda weak like Reynolds carried the entire movie. I took half a star off cause the movie felt incomplete. I know that's from budget cuts but I feel like the directors cut will be even better.
If this is a success those missing scenes can always be used in some way for the sequel...

The animated eyes really add to the portrayal / performance. It's subtle but effective

I think they can tone it down to a PG13 for the sequel and have him beak the 4th wall about the censorship. Goes to the top of my superhero list. Well done, Reynolds.

I don't understand why they can't release both? Have the R rated version release first and a month or two later release the PG-13 version.

Given how much money they made, no way in hell they would want to tone it down for PG-13. I don't see the point in doing it creatively speaking either.

There are two references to him in the film if I remember right.
His name ('Rob L.') is on coffee cup and Wade greets someone named 'Liefeld' in the Mercs Bar (I read that Liefeld is actually sitting at the bar but I didn't catch it).
I heard there are more Liefeld references but those are the only ones I caught on my first viewing.

Isn't there a sign in the background behind DP on the bridge? On the right, while on our left was, I think, Nicieza?
I did like Wade called out Liefeld. That was fun.
Also good to see that they put in a Bob for this one.

Eh, Liefeld really is trying to ride this as much as he can even though his input in creating Dead Pool was basically ripping off another character.
Everything that makes Dead Pool the material that makes this much box office take had nothing to do with that hack of an "Artist"

I didn't see any ads or trailers for this. The only thing I knew about it is from the DEADPOOL threads on this board and then reading Manohla Dargis' review of it in the Times on Friday.

You must not be on the movie related stuff on the internet that much.
Also he had an ad on the Super Bowl. So... yeah. He was kind of everywhere.
