Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Michael Rooker has joined Universal’s Fast & Furious 9 in the role of Buddy, in what is a last minute addition to the production which is currently underway.
Rooker joins Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, and Helen Mirren who have been previously announced.
Dan Casey wrote the screenplay from a story by Justin Lin. Pic’s release date is May 22, 2020. Diesel is producing the sequel through his One Race Films and Lin for Perfect Storm Entertainment.
Rooker is on a roll with a slew of parts in upcoming 2020 features including in Blumhouse/Sony’s Fantasy Island (on Feb. 28) and Paramount/21 Laps’ Monster Problems (on March 6), in addition to Amazon/MRC’s The Dark Tower pilot. Recently Rooker starred opposite Mahershala Ali in HBO’s third season of True Detective which landed nine Primetime Emmy nominations.

Justin Lin is directing the feature, which is now in production and sees Vin Diesel leading a cast of new faces as well as returning favorites, with John Cena and Charlize Theron among them. Fast 9 is set for a May 22, 2020, release.
Character details were not revealed.
Ozuna has won five Billboard Music Awards, 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards and six Latin American Music Awards for his music, and his debut album, Odisea, spent 46 weeks at No. 1. He also is nominated for a 2019 Latin Grammy Award for best urban song for his hit single “Baila Baila Baila,” which he co-wrote with Vicente Saavedra.
Like many of the Fast & Furious franchise players, Ozuna has a massive social presence. He is one of YouTube’s most-viewed artists, having over 25 million subscribers, and many of his videos have charted near or even above 1 billion views.
Ozuna’s casting in the movie marks a major next step in his developing acting career. He previously starred in the Spanish-language feature film Qué León and is set to appear in the sequel Los Leones, which is currently in preproduction.
