The Finest Hours (2016, D: C. Gillespie) S: C. Pine, C. Affleck, B. Foster, E. Bana

Opens this Friday, surprised there wasn't already a topic for this.

Disney movie which tells the true story of one of the Coast Guards most hazardous rescues. Directed by Craig Gillespie, who did the wonderful 'Lars and the Real Girl', and 'Million Dollar Arm'.

Descirption from IMDB:

"In February of 1952, one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast struck New England, damaging an oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod and literally ripping it in half. On a small lifeboat faced with frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves, four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the rapidly-sinking vessel."

Based upon the book by Casey Sherman and Mike Tougias.

Rent if for sure and I am a fan of movies with snow or inclement weather.

Just hope it is not in June or July and it is 100 degrees.

This looks on track to bomb hard. They've done such a shitty job marketing it. I'm still not aware when this takes place, what country, etc. Is this the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald or what?

I saw some interviews from the premiere last night the cast seemed so disinterested. They couldn't even muster an ounce of enthusiasm.

a Chris Pine movie, without Star Trek or Denzel, cannot be rescued.

I dug the director's previous work, but this will do as well as Ron Howard's recently tanked water story. But this one feels like The Perfect Storm re-done.

I agree. They just had the same movie, but with a whale last month and that flopped. This is pretty much more of the same.

Re: The Finest Hours (2016, D: C. Gillespie) S: C. Pine, C. Affleck, B. Foster, E. Ba

In the early days of it's marketing, the trailer was always paired with "In The Heart of the Sea", which made things a bit confusing. The fact that I saw "Heart of..." and it was awful, makes me not want to see this. There is just something very generic about it, and the title doesn't help, though I can't imagine what title would help. Also, I just have a problem with these "based on a true story" movies, -usually they lack a certain dynamic that a fictional story can provide, and, of course, they're often not very true at all. I mean, if you're going to fake the truth, why not make it all-out fiction and make it more exciting. I mean, really, are there people who will be drawn to this by its claim to be "true"?

This has a decent cast but yeah it doesn't look like anything special. Might be something I watch when its on tv someday.

I feel bad for Eric Bana, great actor who's career is in a world of doo-doo.

That's basically what they said, "oh hey, you guys heard of Zootopia?" It shouldn't hurt them much publically, Lionsgate keeps sucking and somehow their value keeps going up

A good weekend at Walt Disney World probably makes that $75 million back with ease.

Yeah, they pull $75 billion a year off all 11 parks combined, though only $2.2 billion of that is profit.

Watched it. Liked it. Thought it was a good story. Didn't read the book but I found it to be a cool story about something I never knew happened.
Not action packed but that would have made the movie unlikable I feel. It was done just right IMO.

I agree 100%. It's nothing special but well made and probably worth a rental.

Just finished it, a great rental. Although I'd probably pay someone $3 for the digital code.
