'Son of Saul' is and will be the winner of Best Foreign Film - why bother nominating the other four films? ;)

I thought Good Morning America had the exclusive rights since the live announcement was not being shown on CNN at 5:30am PT until I checked later.

E! completely ignored it this year. I guess since the Kardashians were not involved it was not worth covering.

Good to see Bridge of Spies and Room get some well-deserved love. Matt Damon nominated is horseshit, I'd have rather seen Depp there. It's definitely DiCaprio's to lose this year. The Revenant's digital effects sucked, you could easily pick out the CGI animals. The Hateful Eight, Sicario and perhaps Creed deserved more noms. Beasts of No Nation deserved something. Fury Road should've scored a nod for Score as well. Williams' TFA score was his weakest of the series. That Spectre song is gobshit.

I'm also surprised the Academy nominated Bridge of Spies and not Inside Out, or at least added the latter film for Best Picture. The former seems to have been forgotten. Anybody remember War Horse?

I still haven't seen it but did DVR its first showing on cable the other night.

Shocked at how many nominations it got.

On another note, I am thrilled to see Room get a bunch of the big nominations. It was fantastic. So happy for Brie Larson and the director. :)

First off, I too am happy about The Room getting some respect. Second, you really should have seen Mad Max in theaters. It melted my face off in the best way possible. I try not to go in with any huge expectations for any movie, but the great thing about Mad Max was, mostly no one expecting anything great from a guy who hadn't done action in about 30 years. Then, he schooled every recent action director in about the first 30 minutes of the movie. It's basically a 2 hour chase scene, but it's an amazing 2 hour chase scene.

Oh yeah - am I alone in not having heard of "45 Years"? Where the fuck did that come from.

People said the same thing about Michael Keaton last year. And....

Then again, at least Sly doesn't have any really great standout performance competing against him, so he might actually pull off a win.

it was well acted, but the script and specifically the story wasn't all that.

no love for Ryuichi Sakamoto's score for 'The Revenant' that surprised (and annoyed) me

Don't laught but how come Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding did not get nominated for 50 Shades of Grey?

Earned it by the Weekend is the weaker song.

Everybody was saying great things about Straight Outta Compton but no nominations?

I have not seen it and a lot of first time actors so maybe the acting was not up to par.

I don't get the sound nom's for 'The Force Awakens' - not the best 7.1 or Atmos mix by a long shot.

Cough, cough

Haven't seen Creed but Tom Hardy in The Revenant was great, even better than Leo IMO.

I agree, Sicario and The Hateful Eight got shafted in the major categories.

Nice to see Morricone get a nom and especially happy to see one of my favorite 2015 movies get a nom for Best Animated Feature:

Bridge of Spies is far better than War Horse.

The acting was solid, especially considering how close the actors look to their real life counterparts, but it wasn't exceptional. Everything in the movie was solid, but not exceptional.

Which basically means, if it weren't for the fact it was about NWA, it would have gone unnoticed. It felt like a cliff notes edition of a longer movie to me.

Maybe, but when I saw the trailer for Bridge of Spies I had an inkling that Mark Rylance would end up getting nominated and possibly winning. It seems that Stallone has the momentum now, but I wouldn't count Rylance out.

I'm surprised about Ridley Scott not being nominated. I really thought it was going to be his year, since AGI won last year.

Thrillers rarely get noticed at these things, at least it got Deakins another nomination.

I'm surprised about Bridge of Spies being included for Best Picture and the exclusion of Will Smith for Concussion. I really hope Sly Stallone wins for Creed. He was actually really good!

Concussion covered some good material, but the movie itself wasn't well done.

The Revenant should see a nice bump at the box office with 12 noms.

Barely anything for Hateful Eight. Surprised.

It's like the Grammys. They pick a favorite (The Revenant) and shower it with awards.

No one else should even bother writing an acceptance speech.
