The acting was solid, especially considering how close the actors look to their real life counterparts, but it wasn't exceptional. Everything in the movie was solid, but not exceptional.

Which basically means, if it weren't for the fact it was about NWA, it would have gone unnoticed. It felt like a cliff notes edition of a longer movie to me.

Maybe, but when I saw the trailer for Bridge of Spies I had an inkling that Mark Rylance would end up getting nominated and possibly winning. It seems that Stallone has the momentum now, but I wouldn't count Rylance out.

I'm surprised about Ridley Scott not being nominated. I really thought it was going to be his year, since AGI won last year.

I'm surprised about Bridge of Spies being included for Best Picture and the exclusion of Will Smith for Concussion. I really hope Sly Stallone wins for Creed. He was actually really good!

It's like the Grammys. They pick a favorite (The Revenant) and shower it with awards.

No one else should even bother writing an acceptance speech.

Sadly... he has no chance against Chivo. The Revenant has it in visuals. 3 years in a row possibly. Jesus. Chivo's had a great career.

Not sure about what I'd choose for Best Pic but.... I'm kind of itching towards The Martian. Weird how Ridley Scott didn't get nominated again. At the same time... I wasn't impressed by his direction of it. It's Ridley Scott. He knows how to direct for sure though. He's a constant in his direction... iffy films or not.

I'm all for George Miller for getting Best Director. Easily.

Everything it is nominated with I am game for MM4 to get for the most part, Best Pic and Cinematography are the hard ones to get based on what is there. Which I don't think they'll get. Chivo and Deakins are just amazing. Chivo in his film had wonderful locations to be in. Which only adds to what The Revenant was about. .

Not sure why TFA would get a nomination for its music. I liked it fine enough but I wasn't impressed by it.

Miller's wife did a fucking amazing job on editing MM4.

Clean sweeps are boring as hell. But there hasn't really been one since Slumdog Millionaire 8 years ago. Which is a movie I liked but man that's just over praise and a half right there.

His work was about the only good thing in Knight of Cups as well. I wonder if he'll get nominated for that next season.

It was not nominated in Screenplay. It's very possible Leo is the only win for the film.

It was ruled ineligible because it had two composers. They appealed the ruling but were rejected.
Brian Wilson's original song from Love & Mercy was also ruled ineligible due to coming late in the end credits instead of first in the end credits.
Music rules are stupid sometimes.

I think it's a fair point to make cause all these middle of the road white biopics get a ton of noms every year even if they are thrashed critically. I doubt if the old fogies in the Academy had seen Beast Of No Nation they would have snubbed him.

That "See You Again" song is all I can think of with Furious 7, the Charlie Puth stuff in it is lovely, has a decent beat, but the Wiz Khalifa portion of it is just amazingly bad. His vocals are flat and the rapping, or whatever he's doing, is horrible.

Beasts of No Nation deserved more love, it was imo better than Revenant and just as skillfully made. Straight Outta Compton got the nominations it deserved.

I agree that it is. But what/who should've been nominated? Idris is the only one that comes to mind for acting. Straight Outta Compton is not a Best Picture movie. Creed could've been though.

Not sure i can slog through Bridge of Spies again to see if i missed something the first time around that earned it a BP nom. I'd put Sicario over it for sure.

I really hope Sly wins and he probably will. Hell, I was shocked Michael Caine in Cider House beat Tom Cruise for Magnolia in the Best Supporting Actor role in 99-2000 though. I still think that was highway robbery.

Never know with this stuff.

I'd put Sicario over The Revenant. What Denis Villeneuve did with that film is amazing. Leaving him and Benicio Del Toro out sucks but I'm not surprised.
While I did like The Revenant, there is no way in hell that it was better than Sicario or The Hateful Eight.

Not really passionate about that Score but Morricone is possibly the greatest film Composer ever and has never won an Oscar so I hope the Academy take QT's drunken ramblings to heart.

I loved the score for H8 but Jóhann Jóhannsson's score for Sicario was also great.

Though I didn't care much for Carol, it's score is the only one that stood out to me for the year... beyond The Hateful Eight.

Hateful Eight got nominated for 3 awards. Best Supporting Actress, Cinematograpy, and Music Score. Sicario got nominated for Cinematography and Score.


And yes Fury Road is that fucking good!

Ugh, really? I'm a Brian Wilson fanboy and was hoping he'd get an Oscar nom. The song isn't his best work or anything, but I'd say it was better than the Spectre theme, which didn't really work for me.

I am pulling for Morricone as well. He got an honorary Oscar a few years back but it'd be great to see him win the real deal--and has anyone done so after getting an honorary award? Or even been nominated?

I thought Creed might get a little more love.

Stallone should probably calm down with the sequel talk until this is over. I could see that hurting him. I am convinced Rourke lost his best actor award for The Wrestler when he started talking about doing an actual WWE match.

I loved Sicario and wish it would have gotten the Best Picture/Best Director nom but Emily Blunt was the worst actor in it. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro acted circles around her.

I am glad to see it get a Cinematography nomination though. Even though I don't see it beating The Revenant.

I disagree, I thought Blunt was excellent right next to Del Toro. Of course, she's the only one that had anything to do outside of acting like a badass.
