Didn't realise how much he brought to Hans Gruber.

Brian Bedford died. He was the voice of Robin Hood in the Disney animated film. Odd to have Robin Hood and the Sherrif of Nottingham die so close to each other.
To tie it all together, the David Bowie song "Blackout" has the line "Me, I'm Robin Hood."

wtf. He added that to Hans? Holy fuck.
EDIT: He had such a unique body language and voice to him. Fuck. Too young for someone like him.

Since the 1940s the number of popular entertainers has increased exponentially. And as they get older, recognizable stars will start dying more and more often because there are just so many more old artists/entertainers now than there were 10, 20 years ago. Basically, news and social media will become a constant stream of celebrity obituaries.

Re: Alan Rickman RIP (Dead at 69)
I wrote this last month about Galaxy Quest. His performance was so great:
I'll add that only an actor like him could have done it. A purely comic actor probably couldn't have sold the moving side of that moment.
Without a doubt the finest moment is when Alan Rickman's character has the guy dying in his arms and he finally says the catch phrase that he detests so much ("By Lothar's Hammer I will AVENGE THEE" or whatever it was). It's been perfectly set up. We know how tired Rickman is of it. We know how much it means to the dying guy, and Rickman just nails it, it's both incredibly funny and incredibly moving at the same time. I can't think of another joke in any other film that hit those two buttons at the same time so perfectly.

I just watched "Die Hard and Love Actually" a few weeks ago for the Christmas season, and Rickman's performance was a standout and remembering thinking oh what movie is he going to be next and looking at IMDB "Alice through the Looking Glass" fuck!

Truly Madly Deeply was priced at $164 this morning by Amazon marketplace sellers.

Yep, I just watched those myself, as I do every year.
That pic is slightly awkward with McKellen and Rickman carrying awards and Scacchi between them without one, but on the other hand she looks fantastic as always.

From Daniel Radcliffe's Google+
Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also, one of the loyalest and most supportive people I've ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I'm pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn't have to do that. I know other people who've been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say, 'If you call Alan, it doesn't matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he's doing, he'll get back to you within a day.'
People create perceptions of actors based on the parts they played so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner (or downright scary) characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny. And certain things obviously became even funnier when delivered in his unmistakable double-bass.
As an actor, he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child. Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career. Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man.

Daniel Radcliffe does, apparently.
From what I understand, he doesn't really do social media, but pretty much everyone has a gmail account, which comes with a Google+ account, whether you want it or not. It was probably easier for him to post it there than to create a Facebook or a Twitter.

In a way, I think Alan Rickman sort of wrecked Diehard.
He made Hans Gruber so cool and charismatic that I was rooting for him to pull the heist off and kill John McClane.

“I have just returned from the dubbing studio where I spoke into a microphone as Severus Snape for absolutely the last time. On the screen were some flashback shots of Daniel, Emma, and Rupert from ten years ago. They were 12. I have also recently returned from New York, and while I was there, I saw Daniel singing and dancing (brilliantly) on Broadway. A lifetime seems to have passed in minutes.
Three children have become adults since a phone call with Jo Rowling, containing one small clue, persuaded me that there was more to Snape than an unchanging costume, and that even though only three of the books were out at that time, she held the entire massive but delicate narrative in the surest of hands.
It is an ancient need to be told in stories. But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo.”

It was not his most prominent role but he was good in CBGB a movie about the founder of the famous club in New York.

One of my favorite villains ever. I watched Robin Hood and Quigley Down Under quite a bit when they came out, and Rickman was definitely the one that stood out the most.
