Another vote here for S.o.t.L. being massively overrated. If only they had silenced that dreadful ham Hopkins.

I was and still of the opinion that Brian Cox (Manhunter) played a far more sinister and effective Lector than Hopkins did.

Definitely, though I don't love Manhunter either.
There is a scene in which Lector uses a phone intended for him to call his lawyer to find out Graham's home address instead. Cool, precise, charming and creepy. Not at all. I didn't think much of it at the time. It's well-made and all, but everyone was talking about how scary it was. I watched it and thought, "♪Is that all there is?♪" |

I have seen it a few times since and still hold that view. |

I would have given the Oscar to Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.

Off topic, but there's a GREAT new interview with Mickey Rourke on Alec Balwin's "Here's the Thing" podcast. He name drops "Marlboro Man" as the worst movie he's ever done.

Nominated Tom Cruise instead of Dustin Hoffman for Rain Man
Nominated Denzel Washington instead of Tom Hanks for Philadelphia |

Re: If the Oscars had a do-over?
Oscar Isaac should have gotten a supporting actor nomination for Ex Machina.
Mesmerizing performance. He just disappears into the role. We watched it recently at home, and my wife didn't even recognize him as Poe Dameron when we went to see Force Awakens. The dance sequence alone is Oscar-worthy :eyebrow:: (NSFW due to brief language) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvYPCNCGEK8 |
Re: If the Oscars had a do-over?
1976's "The Shootist" not even getting nominated for best picture, was one of the academy's worst offenses.

Re: If the Oscars had a do-over?
I know there isn't a lot of love for the film here, but after watching HR Pufnstuf this morning, I remembered that I always thought Jack Wild gave the best performance ever by a child actor as the Artful Dodger in Oliver! I haven't seen Jack Albertson in The Subject was Roses, but I cannot fathom it could compare to the work Wild did as a child in that film.
