Re: Rank the 8 live action Star Wars films.

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Star Wars (none of this, "A New Hope," crap - it was just Star Wars when it came out, and that's when I first saw it)
3. The Force Awakens
4. Rogue One
5. Return of the Jedi (the Luke/Yoda/Vader/Emperor stuff was great, the rest just OK)

6. Revenge of the Sith
7. Attack of the Clones
8. The Phantom Menace

And that's it. I'll say that without a doubt Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels, but they all really suck.

You nailed it.

It goes without saying that the prequel trilogy is well below the other 5.

3. Return of the Jedi

Good, but not reaching Greatness
4. Rogue One
5. The Force Awakens

Forgetable
6/7/8. The Last Jedi / Revenge of the Sith / Attack of the Clones

Wish I Could Forget it
9. The Phantom Menace

This could change but for now:
1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. The Force Awakens
4. Return of the Jedi
5. The Last Jedi
6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
7. Revenge of the Sith
8. The Phantom Menace
9. Attack of the Clones

The top six are all solid to me. The prequels are the only ones I don’t care for and have no desire to rewatch or own.

Re: Rank the Star Wars films

Since the Special Editions of the OT are all that really exist officially at this point, it makes making any lists a whole lot easier

Rogue One
...
...
....
...
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back

and that's it. Everything else can can get put in a landfill for all I care. If the original releases were available my list would probably be SW, RO, ESB.

ESB was a good film for a long time. But the problem is that it was only the establishing half of a story and Lucas decided to shit all over it when it came time to provide the resolution. ROTJ actively and consistently negates or invalidates every major conflict ESB set up-
1) a love triangle in which there are no easy bad guys that deserve to lose
2) a conflict between ostensibly pure good and pure evil that is also a conflict between parent and child and a sure footed master vs a sophomore troubled with doubts
3) the resolution of a galaxy wide conflict with civilization destroying/ apocalyptic stakes.

The dumbing down and pussying out when it came time to resolve every major conflict set up in ESB retroactively makes that former film a lesser one than it should be. It was also the film which started to introduce half baked concepts that would ultimately cripple this series.

Great
1. ESB
2. ANH

Good
3. ROTJ
4. Rogue One

Bad
5. ROTS
6. AOTC
7. TPM
8. TLJ

Honorable Mention: TFA should be ranked #3 ahead of ROTJ and Rogue One, but it is utterly ruined now after that abysmal TLJ.

My Saga may be: Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi with Rogue One as a Prequel, and forget about the PT and ST. That's how much I hate TLJ.

WTF, people?!

I haven’t seen it yet but what happened to all the hype about the Last Jedi being the best Star Wars yet?

I thought Rian Johnson was supposed to be the second coming...what with being given control over the new franchise and all?

I posted this in another thread but something suspicious is going on in the reviewer community. It’s getting 93% positive among reviews yet only 56% positive among the fans. Somebody is paying these reviewers because this movie is not even in the same league as ESB, like most of them proclaim.

Reactionary fanboys being butthurt on Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t surprise me. Did you try to read any of those “fan” reviews? Oh they’re bad.

That's what I posted back in 2016. With the release of The Last Jedi, my list now looks like this:
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
The Force Awakens
Return of the Jedi
Rogue One
The Last Jedi
...
Star Wars Holiday Special
Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure
Ewoks: The Battle for Endor
...
...
the prequels

It's possible I might move it up above Rogue One after another viewing.

It's more to it then that. Look at TFA. IMHO I think the people who hated that movie could be described as butt hurt because the consensus is a 93% critics score and an 88% fan score. That's much more in line than 93% and 57%. But I don't think there is a conspiracy. Look how much flak Disney got when they tried to black list the LA times.

I think it's just critics judging the movie in a vacuum as a singular movie and not part of a larger narrative.

So since Justice League got 40% with critics and 80% with the audience, is there something suspicious going on with that too? Is Disney paying critics to give DC movies a bad score?

Or is it because you personally didn't like TLJ there must be something wrong and there must be a conspiracy?

I know there is a small sample size of 60 votes in the DVDtalk Review thread, but currently, 70% of the votes are 4 stars and above, 15% 3 - 3 1/2 stars and 15% 2 1/2 stars and below. So it does seem like you're in the minority.
