Which recent space movie?
Gravity, Interstellar or The Martian?
for me: as much as i loved Gravity and looking forward to revisiting it, i thought The Martian was the whole package. |
Re: Which recent space movie?
Gravity is the best of the three. It was the one that really felt different and realistic. It really blew my mind; I thought it was amazing. That said, The Martian is a lot of fun and probably more re-watchable.
Personally, I disliked Interstellar. |
Re: Which recent space movie?

You started a thread. You asked which of the three is best. You added a poll with all three options. You then respond with: won't see I for this one... Goddammit. You're killing me here. |
Re: Which recent space movie?
I don't understand the question.

Re: Which recent space movie?
Interstellar was too bloated and esoteric at times.
Gravity is just the opposite. All the great visuals but the story is too lean. The Martian is the best of the three. It's over two hours long but the time flies by. Damon does a great job with so much screen time (like Bullock in Gravity) but the big supporting cast is excellent and used well. Gravity is like a great short story. Interstellar is like an overlong novel that becomes a slog to get through. The Martian is that book that hits just the right spot to be a great read. |
Re: Which recent space movie?
The Martian is the best Ridley Scott film in what seems like 200 years and I would give it a 4.5/5. Gravity was nerve racking and pretty much a one and done film and probably a 4 out of 5. Interstellar is a Christopher Nolan film so I won't go into it.

Re: Which recent space movie?
Duh, Interstellar.
|
Re: Which recent space movie?
As I mentioned in the other thread, I enjoy The Martian the best out of the 3.

Which recent space movie what?
|
Re: Which recent space movie?
Voted for Gravity. Loved just about everything about it, especially the score which I regularly listen to.
|
Re: Which recent space movie?
wow! went back to see what i gave Gravity and apparently the same 4.5 stars as i did The Martian. just saw Gravity in 3D again tonight and am really torn. was just as thrilling the 2nd time. really tough one...

Re: Which recent space movie?
I'm torn between Interstellar and Gravity as my favorite of the three. I really liked the Martian a lot, but the other two just have bigger emotional impact.
I've only seen each one once. I need to revisit them all again. |

You mean they're not all the same movie?
|
Re: Which recent space movie?
Interstellar and The Martian both fell apart at the end, one on a much grander scale. And while Gravity had its issues too, I think it's by far the superior of the three.

Re: Which recent space movie?
The nerd in me has to go with Interstellar. It does feel a bit long at times, and probably doesn't make as much sense, but I'm glad someone is still playing with the occasional heady sci-fi concept.
But I think all three are fantastic. It's incredible that we've had three major space films (from three major filmmakers) over the last three years. And they were all excellent technically and dramatically and they all managed to make decent money. I don't know what's in the pipeline, but I hope there'll be another film to add to this list by next year. |
Re: Which recent space movie?
1. Interstellar
2. Gravity 3. The Martian |

I mean... have you seen it, or are you saying you haven't and you won't? Goddammit. You're killing me here. I'm starting to think Oldboy's avatar is a selfie. |

Re: Which recent space movie?
I'm just glad all 3 were big box office success stories. I like this genre. Gravity made about $720m worldwide, Interstellar about $675m, and The Martian only dropped about 31% this weekend (domestic) from last which is pretty damn solid, it stands at about $109m domestic (worldwide weekend numbers aren't out yet, though it should be closing in on $200m or so)
