When Max (Taissa Farmiga) and her friends reluctantly attend a screening of "Camp Bloodbath," an infamous ‘80s cult horror film that starred Max’s late mother (Malin Akerman), they are accidentally sucked into the silver screen. They soon realize they’re trapped inside the movie and must team up with the horny, regan-era idiot “Camp Bloodbath” counselors -- including Max’s mom as the shy scream queen -- to battle the film’s machete-wielding killer, Billy Murphy. Face to face with her mother for the first time in years, Max has a second chance not only to see her, but to save her, and with the help of her friends, get back home before Billy kills them all.
Director Todd Strauss-Schulson described THE FINAL GIRLS as such: "it's 'Pleasantville' in a trashy horror movie from the 80's with a little 'Back To the Future' thrown in and a spoon full of 'Terms of Endearment' with a dash of 'Scream' and 2 dollops of 'Purple Rose of Cairo' for good measure."
THE FINAL GIRLS opens on October 9, 2015.

That is WAY too many genres thrown together. Wow.
Seeing the trailer, it has a campy feel to it, some laughs, but best for Netflix. And I really don't want to pay to see the guy from Pitch Perfect in this.

With you guys on the PG-13 complaint, but I like the title. As they mention in the trailer, the "final girl" is the survivor of a slasher flick.

Has anyone mentioned this isn't rated R?
It's a fucking echo chamber in here. There's only 9 fucking posts in the thread, can't you be bothered to read them?
Lastly, who is to say that the PG13 is ruinous? The MPAA takes TONE into consideration above all else. That's why you can have a funny cum shot joke and get an R, but if there is an intense sex scene with semen involved it gets an NC-17. It's possible that there is slasher gore in this film, but the context of it being a pastiche and a comedy lightens the tone therefore it got a PG 13.
Now, everyone back to your Jump to Conclusions Mat!

Kind of weird that there are two films out about the same time with similar titles. I seem to remember seeing a preview of "Final Girl" starring Abigail Breslin, and reading that the title comes from the same reference.

Anyway, look at what this movie is trying to send-up. It's like making a movie dealing with all the tropes of 70's sexploitation flicks and then making it PG-13. It's just a fucking stupid decision.

Really like the look, it's got a Tucker and Dale vs. Evil vibe which I enjoyed. Seems like a creative concept and that's a fun cast. I'll definitely check it out.
Also don't give a shit that it's not rated R

Should be rated R , only because Nina should be naked 24/7.
Surprised no one has mentioned the girl everyone loves in the Random video thread (dance like nobody's watching) is in this.

I saw the trailer a couple of days back and it looks fun. It was screened at SXSW and a couple of other film festivals and has received mostly positive reviews.

The PG-13 is disappointing, but it otherwise looks kind of fun. But that rating really lowers my interest, knowing what could have been had they went with an R. It better be really clever and entertaining to get away with no gore or nudity, despite parodying that type of film, which makes no sense.

The rating puts me on alert but all the festival praise has me excited for it - it is playing Midnight Madness at TIFF this year, so I'll probably go check it out.

The movie is hilarious and has a really sweet mother daughter storyline - definitely worth seeing but I thought the PG-13 did hurt it a bit. If they had really gone for it, could have been a true classic.
