It certainly is the same writer as Straight Out of Compton. His name is S. Leigh Savidge. He was on the Adam Carolla podcast a few days ago and he made clear that he was actively pursuing getting this made and that several studios were pursuing him. He is a biographer who wrote a book about the murders and made a documentary about the subject.
Straight Out of Compton has caused everyone in H'wood to jump on the hip-hop biopic bus. Luther Campbell was also on the Adam Carolla show and he said he's already received several calls about people dying to make a 2 Live Crew film.

This is what I was worried about. Every hip-hop/rap artist thinking they have a story behind them.
Most of them have been covered by VH1 behind the music specials. That's about as interesting as they can be.

Straight Outta Compton was in development for years before the film began shooting and it was done under the watch of F. Gary Gray and Ice Cube.
This is a film being shopped by an entirely different team, specifically chasing the money that Straight Outta Compton has been making.

If they can make shit movies for people that love other genres, then I want to see more hip hop biopics for those of us that have an attachment to the culture. I like to see the people that I listened to or even hung out with represented on the silver screen while having their story told.

Straight Outta Compton, and 8 Mile before it, worked due to everything coming together and being released at the right time; let it be politically or significantly in one's career.
If there was such a market for these films, Get Rich or Die Tryin and Notorious would've been box office juggernauts... or maybe its because those films were trying to ride the success of the films that came out before it?

Notorious still doubled its budget....

Yeah maybe they could portray everyone on the Death Row label as innocent angels like they did NWA from SOC.

A Tupac/Biggie movie would be better. A Snoop centered biopic isn't all that interesting.

Not necessarily. Snoop was the centerpiece of Dr. Dre's solo album. Dre likely doesn't have the solo career he had without finding Snoop. Also, Snoop was on trial for murder back then too.

Unless these films are done on small budgets, they're not going to be successful.

I think you're vastly underselling this stuff.

Except that Notorious came out when digital projection wasn't wide yet. It cost upwards of $10M alone just to play the film in 1600 screens on top of its $20M budget. Then there was also marketing . . .
. . . so yeah, it didn't make any money theatrically.

Could have sworn Suge wasn't 'Mr. Nice Guy' in SOC.
Pretty sure I saw members of NWA threatening people with several types of guns. Ice Cube demolished a guys office with a bat with help from his 'posse'.
I know I saw them incite a riot at a concert ... yeah, portrayed as 'innocent angels'
Seems everyone is pissed we didnt get to see Dre beating the shit out of a woman. I guess that would have made the movie a 5/5

'Straight Outta Compton' Sequel
The New Cast!!!
... For 'DPG 4 Life'

Sorry. But Marcc Rose (Tupac SOC) looks like a Tupac clone. All they did here was get a VH1 story tellers looking dude. And please tell me Suge isn't played by an overweight Redman?
I dont get why if this is a sequel, just use the same players?
The New Cast!!!
... For 'DPG 4 Life'
Move over "Empire" ... the biggest Round 2 has just been revealed ... the new cast of the follow up to "Straight Outta Compton" -- "Dogg Pound 4 Life."
We got these pics of the new cast, and take a look at who they're playing ... Daz Dillinger (played by Azad Arnaud - next to the real Daz), Dr. Dre (played by Dre's son Curtis), Suge Knight (played by Reggie Noble), The Lady of Rage (that's really her), Tupac (played by DaDa), and Kurupt (played by Melvin Jackson Jr. from "The Wire").
The pic below, showing all the actors, was shot over the weekend at an L.A. recording studio. Daz got them all together to shoot a scene, where Suge, Tupac and Daz record "Ambitionz Az a Ridah," and "I Ain't Mad at Cha" in a 24-hour period.

Because it's not an "official" sequel.
