Now THIS is exactly the kind of horror movie I like to see being made. Looks genuinely disturbing and grim, no studio gloss here.

Nice to finally get a trailer for this one. Been anxiously awaiting it ever since hearing about it from Sundance. Huge fan of both period and witch-based horror.

Looks decent. Be interested to see how the reviews turn out. It could be really creepy or could be a boring period piece with a lot of cheap CGI we've seen in other exorcist/possessed movies.

THE SATANIC TEMPLE ENDORSES A24'S THE WITCH
The Satanic Temple is calling Robert Eggers's The Witch "a transformative Satanic experience." Originally showcased at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, The Witch is a period piece set in 1630s New England.
The Witch will open worldwide on February 19, though The Satanic Temple of New York City will hold premiere screenings starting on February 10. Endorsed screenings of The Witch will also include "interactive performances and ritualized pronouncements of a 'new Satanic era.'" Screenings in Los Angeles (February 12), Austin (February 16), and Detroit (to be determined) will follow.
In an official statement, Jex Blackmore, the national spokesperson for The Satanic Temple, announced the organization is "confident" The Witch will "signal the call-to-arms for a Satanic uprising against the tyrannical vestiges of bigoted superstitions." The spokesperson added the film "will harken a new era of liberation and unfettered inquiry."
The story follows a Puritan family who is forced to move to the edge of a spooky forest, said to be controlled by witches. Critics call the film genuinely terrifying, winning director Eggers the best director award at Sundance last year.

AKA we're using some of our marketing money to have them say this and draw headlines.

After seeing so many Bible Belt-pandering movies last year, can I just say how refreshing it is to see one praised by the other side?
I really want to see this in theaters... but from my experience horror audiences SUCK. And this is coming from a die-hard horror junkie.

It's always screaming girls or guys who try to act tough or people who yell shit out. ALWAYS. But I might go to a theater near a local college, if they're showing it, because the audiences there tend to be a bit more respectful.

I remember a man getting his family up to leave in the middle of Constantine and letting us all in the theater know that we were going to hell for watching the rest of it. I expect more of that here in batshit crazy belt.
