Fucking Jaws fucked me over 3 times in this game. And how the hell is Jaws a "ride" in Universal? It's a sequence of the Studio Tour, not an actual ride. And how is Jurassic Park not the sheepiest answer to that question???

Fuck y'all. Haha

The order of the current scores isn't quite right. AaronHernandez has pulled into a tie for the lead. If he wins it will be the most controversial Sheep victory ever.

There are no right or wrong answers in sheep. It's all about what comes to mind first, and Jaws was stuck in my brain from other questions. Unless it's a reverse sheep question, it's best not to think about the question too much and just write down whatever comes to mind first.

As someone who's been on the tour but not to the park, I appreciate your confirming what I thought, even though it cost me points.

We already voted, and it was ignored. It's a good point that whether we thought it was a sequel did affect how we answered the question, though.

Universal Orlando ... Jaws was one of the longest-standing rides in the park (until they tore it down for Transformers). I will miss the ride. They just don't make rides like that anymore (everything these days are motion simulators or coasters). I fondly remember riding with my niece and convincing her that the ride was just a gentle boat ride. Until the shark attack, that is! :D

Personally, I thought Harry Potter would do better. Even if you've never been to the park, ads for the Potter ride are all over tv. My only doubt was that people wouldn't answer Potter because there was a series of movies or they thought of it as a book adaptation more. Obviously, I should've paid attention to these doubts :( Though my back up answer would probably be Jurassic Park, which was a sucky answer too :D

I could go either way on this one. Yes I avoided it because I didn't know if it would be considered as a sequel, but the thought did cross my mind. How do we define a sequel? Does it have to have a sequential number in title? Does it have to take place after the previous movie?

There are numerous examples of movies that have a sequential number in the title, which would make most say "sequel", but the events of the film actually take place prior to other films in the series (Example: Most would probably accept Insidious: Chapter 3 as a sequel--it has a 3 in it afterall--but the events of that film take place prior to Insidious.)

There are also examples of movies that don't have numbers in the title, take place prior to previously released movies in the series, and most would still consider those to be sequels (Example: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom takes place prior to Raiders of the Lost Ark, still most would consider it a sequel.)

Really the only difference between Phantom Menace and these other films is that Lucas has chosen to give it a number that is before the other numbers in the series. Is that the be and end all? It was obviously released as part of an existing series and exists for the purposes of expanding upon that series, which by most definitions, would make it a sequel. The term prequel is sort of a made up term for sequels that take place prior to the events of a an existing work anyway. Its a mashing together of the prefix pre with the word sequel, and people accept it because it rhymes. If it were a natural term, the word quel would mean something, and it doesn't.

Jurassic Park was the first thing that came to my mind because Jurassic World. But I guess you're right. Jaws never once entered my mind for any of the questions (hence the fucking over 3 times).

Here's how Merriam Webster defines it :

sequel
noun se·quel \ˈsē-kwəl also -ˌkwel\

: a book, movie, etc., that continues a story begun in another book, movie, etc.

: something that happens after and usually as a result of a previous event

Yeah, what's the point of asking for the majority opinion when you're just going to ignore it anyway.

So would you then disqualify other answers like the examples I had given as well (assuming of course, that SLJ had been in them :))?

Ah, thanks. I don't get out to FLA much--just a couple times to see spring training. :)

Can't comment on Insidious since I've never seen those. I would have allowed for Temple of Doom as a sequel because if not for the date given at the beginning of the movie, you'd never even know it was a prequel (hell, they even recycle a joke from Raiders that doesn't even work if you accept the movie as a true prequel).

By the Webster's definition, there can be no circumstance where Phantom Menace is considered a sequel. It's not the continuation of anyone's story -- an expansion of Anikin, Obi Wan and Yoda's, sure, but nobody's story is continued in that movie.

I have no actual horse in this race as I'm so far out of contention, I just don't think someone should score a Unique just because they ignore the rules of the question while nobody else did.

Fuck y'all. Haha

Jaws never even came to mind either, since here in Hollywood its just part of a studio tour like you said and Jurassic World was like the biggest thing ever.

As for the sequel thing, I made the same Temple of Doom argument earlier. Looking at the definition, again it depends on how you want to take it. Further down the MW Dictionary has this -

Full Definition of SEQUEL

1
: consequence, result
2
a : subsequent development
b : the next installment (as of a speech or story); especially : a literary, cinematic, or televised work continuing the course of a story begun in a preceding one
Prequels would most definitely fit under definition 1 and 2a. I'd also actually argue that a prequel does "continue a story begun in another book, movie, etc."

This is just one of those things in Sheep where too much knowledge is sometimes a bad thing. People who have actually been to Universal recently have a different perspective than the masses who haven't. Thus, the two most popular answers are rides that don't exist anymore (at least in the US).

Re: SHEEP GAME: Summertime Fun Edition

While that may be a possibility, the question was "Name a movie that has/had a ride at Universal Theme Park". Already being in the mindset of a "summer" sheep game, I had already answered Jaws for the previous question, and continued and answered Jaws for several other questions. To me, Jaws in one of those quintessential summer movies. Honestly, I have never been to a Universal park, but, as I stated earlier, I clearly remember TS talking about asking Brandi to marry him at Universal, "where Jaws pops out of the water". Hell, the character is even named partially after a character in Jaws. For me, not having any other answer available to me, I went with it hoping that the theme of the game would carry through, and it did.

As to the Epicode 1 issue, I initially thought of being smart and going with that answer, but didn't because I knew that there would be a question surrounding it. Even though, I agree that Episode 1 can be considered a sequel.

I remember some movie I saw in the 70s on cable where the main character goes to Universal Studios and has the encounter with Jaws. I can't remember what the movie was, but long before I'd ever visited or even really knew about Universal Studios, I knew about the Jaws "ride".

Anyone remember what that movie was?

The attraction itself is featured in a number of TV shows from the 80's and 90's. The houses around the Lake feature as the fictional town of Cabot Cove in the TV show Murder She Wrote.

I remembered eventually. It was The Nude Bomb, the terrible Get Smart movie from 1980.
