Kids/Family movies
Animated (I made an exception for The Simpsons movie)
Musicals
Romance (Nicholas Sparks type stuff)
Holiday movies
Sports (ironically I love to watch sports. Sports movies just don't do it for me)
That's about it.

'Dramatic' musicals: I'm okay with lighthearted musicals, but things like Les Miserables are just dreadful to me. Honestly I made it 45 minutes in and thought for sure I had been watching for 2 hours. Miserable, indeed.
Movies based on recent real-life tragedies: I have no desire to see United 93 or any other reenactments of terrible events. It's one thing if a tragic event is a small part of the bigger story, but when the entire film is just based on the event, I'm just not into putting myself through that.

Whatever genre Wes Anderson's and PT Anderson's films fall in.

Not a fan of Park Chan-wook, IMO he tries too hard to be the Korean Quentin Tarantino. On the other hand when it comes to Korean films, Kim Ki-duk has put out some really good stuff and IMO is the best.

Anything that compels the reviewers to use the words "twee" and "louche."

I remembered that I give "Independent Comedies" a pretty wide berth. They are usually light on the "Comedy" aspect.

There are certain words in reviews that usually tell me this is not my kind of movie.
well-meaning, philosophical, musical, Shakespearian, has-been, ensemble.

A new genre where a character films other characters in the movie with a camcorder.
It is not a genre but it is annoying as hell.

At least you can enjoy the single best piece of orchestral music without seeing it:

Funny. I hate sports, but love sports movies. They're like "best of" clips. I never give a crap about who wins or loses in real sports, but sports movies generally make you care.

Re: Genres that don't appeal to you, no matter how popular/well reviewed the movie is
Thought this might be an interesting question.
Is there any genre that simply doesn't appeal to you no matter how popular the movie is or how well liked/reviewed it is.
You could read 200 glowing reviews, but it's simply not a genre you like or care about.
I would probably throw in Political thrillers/dramas. Most of the time, the subject matter just doesn't interest me no matter who's starring in it.
I also don't care for many period dramas like stuff that takes place at the turn of the century.
Going a little out of the box, I don't like Hong Kong ghost movies/supernatural thrillers. Most of them come across as corny and poorly made.

Movies highlighting 'cute' children. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom comes to mind. I will never watch any version of Dennis the Menace.
I have no problem with non-cute children, as in Paper Moon or Night of the Hunter.

Personally, I don't much care for what passes as Horror these days. Used to love the old Hammer film horrors and stuff like Bad Seed and Invasion of the Body Snatchers but what passes for horror today is just slasher movies or what I call startling camera work where someone is going down a straight hallway for instance and then the camera turns suddenly to the right and there is a face to startle you. No really scary, just surprising and something not really likely to happen in a straight hallway when you are searching for the monster/threat anyway.
Stuff like The Omen or The Exorcist let you use your imagination to fill in the horror of the situation. Now you just wait until someone/thing chops a head off and throws it at you. No imagination from the audience is involved at all.
