RIP Rick Ducommun (The 'Burbs)

Just saw a tweet from director Joe Dante saying that the actor has passed away. No other confirmation at this moment.

Damn, RIP. I did't think he was that old. Wonder what happened.

Seems too young to be gone.

Re: RIP Rick Ducommun (The 'Burbs)

Such a shame. He was great in The Burbs. He also had a small but memorable role in Die Hard.

I first knew him from Max Headroom. Of course, I thought he was a real punk rocker.

I remember him being on Star Search and then recognized him in Die Hard.

Re: RIP Rick Ducommun (The 'Burbs)

Even though he had a fairly impressive resume as a character actor, I always thought of his a stand-up comic from watching him on HBO in the 1980s.

Wonder if he was suffering from some kind of illness, as he seems to have fallen off the face of the Earth about ten years ago.

Re: RIP Rick Ducommun (The 'Burbs)

I just watched The 'Burbs two weeks ago. It's one of my favorite comedies ever.

Hopefully the Klopeks were not involved.

Re: RIP Rick Ducommun (The 'Burbs)

He was only 55. So far, they're saying "unknown causes" - hopefully that means a heart attack or medical condition and not something like a suicide or intentional overdose.

Sad to hear this news. I have watched The Burbs more than any other movie ever.

Unless he lost weight, I'm going to assume heart-attack. He got pretty large the last time I saw him in anything.

RIP. I saw his stand up before I saw him in any movies. Loved him in The 'Burbs. 58 is pretty young.

Re: RIP Rick Ducommun (The 'Burbs)

First became aware of him when he hosted a syndicated music video show in the mid-80's. The premise was that he was broadcasting from his mom's basement. He always cracked us up, and it was great to see him turn up in Die Hard and The 'Burbs. But instead of cracking the big time, he did a few small roles here and there before (apparently) disappearing. Sad to hear of his passing.

Big fan of the 'burbs here as well and always liked his small, but memorable role in Die Hard. RIP

Apparently he was 62.

His HBO specials were great.

Loved his small role (but memorable) role as the helicopter pilot dropping off Jack Ryan onto the Red October.
