Captain America can't directly criticize US foreign policy, so it's an allegory. Except wait, actually the US only did those things because a Nazi Cult (except you can't say "Nazi") infiltrated the government. All regular Americans are good guys. And I LIKE The Winter Solider.

It would be nice to have the heroes lose. Like actually, no takesies-backsies lose. And you know what? They can keep pressing on. They're heroes.
I still wonder what the impact was at the end of Infinity War for kids or adults who had no familiarity with the comic or inkling of what was going to happen (similarly I wonder what people originally thought of the ending of Empire Strikes Back when they first saw it with no spoilers). And even then I give them credit for not taking the easy way out and wishing things back so that the gap never occurred and there was actual fallout, though even stuff like Hawkeye losing his way was understandably cartoonish in nature.

Whedon sounds like someone who put his heart and soul into the film and was completely broken by the process. It's no surprise Marvel took the keys away and handed then to the Russos. They were far better equipped to deliver what Feige and the franchise needed.
I should probably watch the commentary but what was Whedon's original vision supposed to be like? I assume they gave him story beats because this had to tie into the Sokovia accords and the birth of Nemo.

Feige does run a tight ship and I think people like that about the MCU, but I can see how unending continuity would hamstring creators and why so many of them get attached to projects but leave before finishing (or sometimes even starting) them.

I always thought AoU gets unfairly crapped on. It's not perfect, but definitely in my top half of MCU films.

It's refreshing to see some of you actually liked Age of Ultron, the amount of hate this movie got here made me almost ashamed to own it and like it. We were definitely entertained by it, not sorry I bought it...

In all honestly I haven't watched it since the initial blu-ray release, so I don't recall most of the details. The one scene that really sticks out in my mind was when Thor takes a dip into the vision pool and sees the infinity stones, or whatever. That scene was obviously there to set up future installments, but it sticks out like a sore thumb.

But I think in general, Whedon was more interested in characterization and perhaps had to compromise some of that stuff for the action. Which, by the way, is totally understandable on the part of Marvel. I seen to recall the farmhouse scenes being a real point of contention between director and studio.

I should really revisit.

The farmhouse scene is one of the best of any in the MCU...

I don't agree with Ultron. But he had some good ideas.
