The Gallows (Horror, 2015)
This horror film from Blumhouse arrives on July 10. I saw the trailer today before Unfriended and it looks very creepy. Maybe this will turn out to really good.

Yes, I have just seen the teaser. Looks like throwaway late night HBO. But I haven't had a pulse on horror films for a few years now nor have had a desire to see them anymore, now that everything seems to want to be a Paranormal Activity/Insidious type of story. And the girl had boogers coming out of her nose. That was a bit scary.

Oh look how scary that slow moving figure is and then a quick jump scare at the end. All of these current gen horror flicks just run into one another and they always turn out lame for me.
I'll probably check it out but won't be waiting for it.

Horror has to be the most unoriginal genre out there. I prefer the state of horror movies today over the endless barrage of PG-13 Japanese horror remakes in the early 2000s, or the constant Scream knockoffs starring the same group of actors (Freddy Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, etc.) from the 90s. Hell, horror hasn't been fun since the 80s but then then it was terrible sequel after terrible sequel to the same handful of movie series'.

Wow. That looks... hilarious. The only scary thing is that someone thought people would be scared by anything in that trailer.

The ads for this are shown on every commercial break on Adult Swim. And jesus is it annoying.
I liked the short-lived J-horror remake phase, at least they attempted to focus on story with a good sense of atmosphere, which is unique amongst most horror these days. I'm just glad we're mostly getting away from Found Footage, this and PA aside.

2 days before opening and this has a grand total of 1 review on RT. That's gotta be a good sign, right? Here's the blurb from that review.
I have a feeling most reviews will probably be like this one.
A chilling setup gives way to insufferable characters, false scares and a bevy of ear-piercing jolts that shouldn't be confused with terror.

I love how there are comments knocking horror. Even the classic horror movies of the 70's-80's like Jason, Freddy, Michael, etc. had some horrible acting, same plot (sex crazed teenagers and a man that cannot be stopped), etc. There have actually been some good horror films within the last couple of years like Sinister and Babadook.
As for this film, the story itself was interesting. Theater play at high school, huge mistake where guy gets killed by hanging, myth of haunting of the school. But the main actor carrying the camera is a douchebag you just hope dies in a horrible death and the story itself was predictable, sadly. I kept looking over to my friend and telling him what I thought would happen, which ended up happening. Should have been a March release.

Saw it tonight with my son. It wasn't good, nor was it terrible. Strictly middle-of-the-road found footage movie that relied on nothing but jump scares. The most entertainment I got from it was watching my son practically jump out of his skin at every jump scare, haha.
