Who should host the 88th Academy Awards?

Someone mentioned Steve Carrell would make a great host. Either him, or Stephen Colbert would make great hosts.

I was also going to suggest John Oliver but he doesn't seem to be well known as others.

Since Colbert will just be getting started with the Late Show, my guess is he wouldn't want to throw things off so early with all the work that goes into the Oscars. Maybe a few years down the road.

I second Triumph. If not I wouldn't mind seeing Conan have a chance to do it. Kinda surprised they don't have Jimmy Kimmel do it since the Oscars are on ABC.

Just as long as it's on delay.

Personally I'd like to see Jason Statham host. When any winner starts going overtime or makes a political speech, he "transports" them offstage with brutal efficiency.

Tim and Eric or Marc Maron

Neither of these seem very safe at all.

It would have to be no less than an hour.

Those are 3 of the 5 names I clicked on this thread to post. The other 2 names are Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosting.

(And given that Colbert would not appear as his now retired neo-con pundent character, maybe Hollywood would be open to having him host the awards show, just as Jon Stewart has done twice before.)

Re: Who should host the 88th Academy Awards?

From past hosts, I would like to see Ellen or Steve Martin.

If they're looking for someone new, give Kevin Hart a shot - I'm a strong believer that stand-ups host better than actors...they're just quicker on the draw with stuff that happens during the show.

Re: Who should host the 88th Academy Awards?

Been saying it for years... no one. No host. Just announce the nominees, cart them all out on stage like that one year and have the winner step forward and make however long an acceptance speech they want. For every fucking category.

If anyone has ever suffered through even fraction of his Planet of the Apes commentary, you know the only choice is Tim Burton.

Or how about Michael Bay?
