Looks like the film pulled in $224,000 it's opening weekend. It only opened in FOUR theaters last week.

Is this a jumpy horror or just twisted/gross?

IMO- neither ... To me, it was a film that just tried to do a slow build of a feeling of dread.

Looks like this is expanding nationwide this week.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe
Shockingly, it's going to be playing by me. I will see it Saturday. A nice surprise as I thought While We're Young was supposed to open by me. I guess its only limited this weekend. So now I have something else to see.

Great to see it's opening wide, but have they ramped up marketing? That PTA from OW may not translate to big box office if no one outside of horror circles is aware of it.

As mentioned already, it looks like the film is expanding to 1,200 screens this coming weekend! http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s-this-friday/ Check to see if it is screening in your area at the (now LONG) list of theaters! http://itfollowsfilm.com/screenings |
Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe
I absolutely adored it. Expertly-crafted with rich underlying themes and such attention to detail. The entrancing cinematography begs to be seen on the big screen, so I'm very happy the VOD route was nixed. Detroit, with it's ghostly aura, is a perfect backdrop for such a haunting story. Throw in the score and you have the overall feeling of a lucid dream turned nightmare. I hope Maika Monroe continues to do genre films. The girl possesses genuine pathos. Between her performances here and in The Guest, definitely a potential "scream queen" I could get behind. And I'd love to see more of Lili Sepe in general.
Another thing I appreciated is how the film doesn't beat you over the head. Spoiler:
I'm thrilled to say that, like Blair Witch back in '99, this is the rare film that lived up to the hype for me. I will be seeing it again very soon. |
Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe
I'm watching it today at like 11am. I'm pretty glad. I rarely see a horror film cuz most are shit. I've only seen 3 or 4 horror films in theaters in the past 4 years probably. I hate how some of the good ones never reach me at times. So it's pretty cool to possibly see this one.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe
I'm looking forward to it. Will definitely be seeing tomorrow morning. I will try to keep my expectations in check. I haven't LOVED a horror film in a while. The last one I really enjoyed was Oculus. I liked that way more than I expected to. Before that the only 2 that stick out are House of the Devil and Frozen (2010)...if you consider that horror.

I highly recommend it. Would definitely try and get for next Halloween. |
Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe
I really wanted to see this but no surprise it isn't playing at my local theater. If anything I'll probably end up blind buying it with all the positive things I've heard and the fact that I enjoy horror films.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe
Really confident and no BS in its scares. I LOVED it. It's pretty mature and controlled. Very smart in its actions, I think.
will talk more later. EDIT: Ok, I'm back. I always end up going out to eat w/ the roomie. Anyway. Wow. This felt like it such a pleasure to work on. Just the confidence this guy had in telling a simple but very interesting story and not make it hokey. Actually giving it some type of grounding for the characters to really believe in this. I actually cared about the characters. Such a rarity for horror. I can't wait for the BD. For a budget of $2 million dolllars it is a very pretty film. They really really used the beauty of the locations, ugly or not, to their advantage. I fell in love with this thing pretty much when the sound came up during the beginning. It just felt right. I had no hype for this at all aside from seeing a horror film w/ 94%. I don't get scared w/ horror films so I can't register the "scare factor' or whatever. I just take it like an ordinary film. And it's a very good and lean one. They did a lot in the time they had and it breezed so well. I never saw The Guest. I saw it mentioned here. Should I check it out? |

Dammit. Really wanted to see this on VOD. I hate seeing horror movies in the theater. Guess I'll be waiting for the dvd.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe
Opened #5 at the box office with an estimated $4.2m, not sure what they were expecting but that sounds pretty alright to me considering how little advertising it had.
