STAR WARS: Ep II and III debut in 3D at Star Wars Celebration (April 2015)
well this is interesting news since 'The Phantom Menace's 3D conversion was in my mind pointless...
REVENGE OF THE SITH 3D - ANNOUNCED FOR STAR WARS CELEBRATION
“Once more, the Sith will rule the galaxy" .....in 3D.
By Rachel Haas
StarWars.com has revealed that Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith will make its 3D debut during the Star Wars in Anaheim, California later this year.
Revenge of the Sith, originally released in 2005, was the installment that brought the Star Wars saga full circle. The site says that Lucasfilm carefully converted the film so fans will be able to relive the movie's epic moments in 3D glory while retaining "the look of the original movie."
And there's more good news: the Star Wars Celebration, which runs April 16-19, will show the Phantom Menace in 3D and debut Star Wars Rebels: Season 2's first episode, while Attack of the Clones will also premiere in 3D. Originally, Star Wars: Episode I, II, and III were all supposed to get the 3D treatment earlier, but only the Phantom Menace was re-released. Now, catch all three in 3D before Episode VII hits theaters December 18, 2015.

despite Rachel's hideous writing ability - I guess...er assume the remaining two films ARE getting theatrical engagements alongside their screenings at this coming April screenings at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim California. Remix the soundtracks to Dolby Atmos ... and I might bite ...

I know its easy to hate on the prequels, but I would enjoy episode 3 in 3d if released in theatres.

I heard they're going to have the original trilogy as well...but only in 2D. Of course, it's almost certainly the Special Editions.
Is anyone here actually GOING to Celebration? I'm only asking because I am going to be there.

Is the event at the Anaheim Convention Center? Where will the actual screenings be?

Attack of the Clones is going to be in 3D as well, but since that debuted at Celebration Europe last year, it's not getting as much press. And yes, as I thought I read, they're showing the original trilogy in 2D. So they're basically showing all six films.

And no OOT. Seriously? Why, God? Why? First The Hobbit unnecessarily becomes a mediocre trilogy, then IMAX stops making prints, physical media is dying, my life sucks, and now this?

I thought Disney was smart enough to leave the PT buried for awhile as to not detract from the hype for the new film. This is just a reminder of why people should be skeptical of the new film.

It isn't that big of a deal. The showings will be at Celebration not a wide theatrical release. I'm sure the films are being shown just because the 3D conversion was done for them already and they figure they might as well show them at some big event. I see no reason to be skeptical over The Force Awakens due to this news.

In addition to what others have said, I've also heard that Disney will actually be doing very little at the show re: The Force Awakens - at least as far as guests or any new footage goes. Of course, they may be saving it as a 'surprise', but the rumors are they don't want to reveal much more about the movie at this point.

^^ And I'm good with that. I would love to see the OT in 3D but they can keep the PT in the can.

If it's going to be exclusive to the con and for something which lots of people aren't exactly clamoring for, I can't imagine immense care will be taken with the conversion.

I'm assuming these conversions were done at the same time as, or right after, the Episode I 3-D conversion and release. They are letting them trickle out at the conventions because no one wants to bother with the expense of a theatrical release.

tonight's the screening of Episode II - anyone seeing this please post back on your thought of the conversion.

Did they remaster the PT for the 3D conversions? I know the Blu-rays are HD masters that have existed for nearly the better part of the decade, but did at least TPM get a 2K or 4K remaster? I never got a chance to see that during its 3D re-release.

It would be funny that with all the excitement about the original cast in the new film that no one showed up for the screenings of Clones and Sith. Maybe Disney would get the hint.
