If it's true, kind of risky. He's a second unit director (along with Moneyball also worked on Ant-Man).

Doug Liman to Direct ‘Dark Universe’ for DC, Warner Bros. (EXCLUSIVE)
http://variety.com/2016/film/news/do...os-1201838857/
Doug Liman is set to direct the Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment adaptation of “Dark Universe” — a.k.a., “Justice League Dark.”
Warner Bros. had no comment.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the story revolves around a dark Justice League team that consists of Det. John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon.
The film is an ensemble focused which speaks to one of his early hits “Go”, which dealt with a similar ensemble. The film will play a major role in the new D.C. Cinematic Universe.

He's no wizard of imagery like the Mexican... but... he's a damn fine director.
Question: Would one call Liman an auteur? I've seen like 3 or 4 of his films... and... honestly... I can't see much connection to show what a Liman film is... aside from that it's very competently directed to the point where it may be almost casual to the viewer. That probably doesn't make sense to some but honestly... I couldn't tell what a Liman film is in the auteur cliche form.

Yeah, he's a solid director. Remember, did a hell of a job on The Bourne Identity.

Liman is a fine director and a perfectly reasonable choice for a Hollywood production.

ie: He should not be directing David Goyer (Jumper) or Kinberg (Jumper, Mr & Mrs Smith) screenplays. (Kinberg also wrote xXx 2, X-men the Last Stand, Sherlock Holmes, This Means War, Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Fantastic Four (2015)). The screenplay for Edge of Tomorrow sounds like a minor miracle that it worked out as well as it did.
Otherwise his trademarks as a director are keeping the energy high and pace brisk in his movies, and he's really good at keeping a lot of moving parts in play while also having lively characters. All things the DC movies could use.

So this will be part of the DCEU?
Cool.
But when/if they ever make a Sandman film, I hope it is in its own continuity.

It can go either way.
Swingers
Go
Bourne Identity
Edge of Tomorrow
I think Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Jumper are garbage and have yet to watch Fair Game.
Swingers and Go are two of the best films of the 90's. The Bourne Identity rocks and Edge of Tomorrow is severely underrated.
I don't hate that he'll be doing JLD but I would have preferred GDT to have done it instead.

I wonder if this will just confuse the average movie goer who are just now learning who the Justice League is without introducing them to a different JL.

Nah, if they're not confused by various CSI and NCIS teams, I don't think they'll have too much of a problem with multiple Justice League teams. The only question is if they'll care. But the success of Suicide Squad makes the chances look better.

Re: Dark Universe aka Justice League Dark (D: Liman)
I don't think there is any chance they use Justice League Dark as the movie's name. It's not like the name is a beloved brand that has been around decades. It was a new comic that only ran for a few years.

This thread is not about that animated film. Not sure why everyone keeps posting the trailers in here?

The animated movie looks more action-oriented than I would like but it could just be the trailer.
