I will give this movie a chance this weekend. Not much else is going on and it shouldn't be very crowded

Anyone see this last night?

I think I'm going to check it out after work. I don't know why...

This is normally something I'd checkout via Redbox. However, my teenage daughter is really wanting to see it and begging me to take her. I might end up giving in.

I am curious about the comedy element in the film.

My tween is begging me to take her and her friends as well... I'll probably cave and see this tomorrow afternoon.

I was skeptical, but gave this a shot this afternoon.

And damn if it wasn't one of the creepiest movies I've seen in a long time. Several funny parts, some annoying mugging for the camera by the little boy, but downright unsettling overall. It seems too obvious to name check "Blair Witch Project" in a found footage style film, but it absolutely managed to replicate that gradual dread of the sun going down each day.

Think this was a nice return to old form for M. Night.

I've been wondering about this film since I saw the trailer and commercials - seems I've been on a found footage kick lately so I might check this out this weekend, esp after reading Jack's post above.

I found the first half really boring. But the final act, post-"twist", was pretty clutch.

I really don't think this needed to be a found footage type film though. I think the concept had potential but fell a little flat.

The main girl in this was a strong in her role I thought.

I would keep your expectations in check.

I thought it wasn't bad. I liked the boy, he was funny, and had mad rap skills. Lots of humor and some decent scares. I'd give it a " B " .

I think the Found Footage in this was more a budget ( < $5m ) thing than doing it for stylistic reasons, but I can't say that for sure... It Follows looked fantastic and that had half the budget.

Re: The Visit (2015, M. Night Shyamalan) S: Kathryn Hahn

Glad I checked this one out.

It's been a while since I've seen a horror film in the theater, and I'm not sure I've ever gone on a Friday night with a fairly large crowd present. The collective responses by the audience added to the fun, though there were a few moments where I grew tired of the whispers and other noises around me.

I'd gladly recommend this film to others.

Re: The Visit (2015, M. Night Shyamalan) S: Kathryn Hahn

This was absolutely great in my opinion. One of the most effective horror/thrillers I've seen in a long time. I don't like a lot of modern horror films and Shyamalan was definitely on a losing streak for a while but this was really damn good. I normally hate found footage films but it really worked here. The acting was good overall especially by the lead girl and the boy was good comic relief. The actor and actress who played the grandparents were good too and managed to be extremely creepy throughout. I didn't expect the twist and it's a pretty big holy shit moment when it's revealed. It worked really well I thought.

Overall I'd say that this is definitely worth seeing. For people who hate on Shyamalan this is a return to form and closer to his earlier work. I really hope that he continues making more films like this.
