Everest (2015) D: Baltasar Kormákur, S: Gyllenhaal, Worthington, Brolin, J. Clarke
While doing an IMDB dive on The Great Gatsby's Elizabeth Debicki, I discovered she would be in this upcoming movie that I had no idea was being made. It's based on the tragic 1996 Mount Everest Disaster chronicled so vividly in Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air.
There were two expedition groups led by Scott Fischer (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) and Rob Hall (played by Jason Clarke) each, who tried to climb the mountain. The cast includes Josh Brolin as Beck Weathers and Robin Wright as his wife Peach. Keira Knightly plays Rob Hall's wife Jan. Emily Watson and Sam Worthington are also in the cast.
The movie is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, whose work I'm not familiar with but he did the recent 2 Guns with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg.
I loved Into Thin Air so much and felt it was a shame that it didn't get a better adaptation than a cheap TV movie. And while the events are covered in the IMAX movie Everest, it's done way too superficially (understandably given the fact that's not the movie they set out to make in 1996).
This movie filmed in Italy and in Nepal. I'm really looking forward to it now.
The movie will be released in 3D and is set for a Sept 18, 2015 release date.

Sorry, I hopefully fixed it. Maybe this version of the only currently available image is better.

Looks interesting but the director Baltasar Kormakur can be hit or miss. His Icelandic films (which he also writes) are much better than his American films (which he does not write and is more of a director for hire).

Heh, actually reading the book this is based on right now, had no idea it was being turned into a movie.

It's a brilliant book, one of my favourite non-fiction works of all time. Looking forward to seeing the movie.

Didn't know it was a book. Now it's in my mental list for books that are now movies that I'll probably never get too cuz I'm reading, playing, and/or watching other things.

That doesn't look like a stressful movie to watch at all.

Looks intense! I'm surprised Keira Knightley is doing another paycheque role as the wife who stays back. She was wasted in the Jack Ryan movie a while back.

Didn't think she was wasted in Shadow Recruit. After all, she did help him get to the bad guy. This movie however, she will defintitely be in it very little. It is Everest after all, and it doesn't seem like she'll be doing much climbing in it.

She has to supplement that $50,000/year allowance

The tag on that second one is painfully clunky.

She was The Female Love Interest in an action movie. The stereotypical female character who does little to nothing other than worry about Her Man, who of course gets to do all the fighting, running, car chasing, and saving the world as we know it. As we've seen in her past filmography, she is capable of much, much more than that.

Saw this in a smaller-format IMAX 3D and really enjoyed it. Very tense, moves along pretty quickly, and doesn't feel clunky when it needs to hit the emotional notes.
