Re: Wonder Woman (2017, D: Patty Jenkins,) S: Gadot, Pine
Back in the day, theaters spliced the trailers on before the film. Occasionally a print (yeah, REAL physical film on reels in cans) would have trailers attached to it. Sometimes there was a contractual obligation and we had to leave them on. If there was no contract, we might leave them or remove them -- it was our call.
We would program (select) trailers that would likely appeal to the audience of the film. Similar genres, actors, etc. Studios/brands had no influence on our selections, except for a few studios who we usually did not get product from (being a small independent, WB and Disney typically did not give us product or demanded unreasonable terms). Obviously we didn't promote films we wouldn't be getting.
I don't know how it works in the digital age.

As many as six trailers play before features at major chains, like AMC and Regal. The studio releasing a given film typically has automatic rights to two of these slots, and theater executives (in consultation with higher-ups from various studios) select the remaining four.

Interesting articles and makes sense then why a WW trailer would be in front of GOTG2. Thanks for posting.

I'm pretty sure I've always seen movie trailers from DC before marvel movies and vice versa, and over their tv shows, etc.

Interestingly, I saw GotG2 today at iPic theaters, and there was no WW trailer. I think there were 4 trailers, which were, in reverse order, the two requisite Disney trailers (Thor and Star Wars), Transformers, and the movie Detroit.

If you got a Detroit trailer and no Wonder Woman trailer, your theater is very bad at matching trailers with the target audience of the film that they are playing in front of.

Or Patty Jenkins for that matter. Snyder is just a producer and from what I read, Geoff Johns (co-head of DC) worked in the editing bay (or at least he did during the press visit so might've been a PR stunt).
Anyway to the trailer. Song doesn't quite mesh but the footage looked great. And kudos for not showing Ares.

Looked okay, but there really wasn't a wow moment, which hopefully means that they'll keep Ares a secret until it debuts.
I'm sort of tired of her smashing that column over and over again.

Maybe that is the "wow" moment?
New trailer looks good, as has all the footage before it. Not crazy about the songs (a bid to be even more accessible to a female audience?), everything else looks promising.
The one element that keeps coming to the fore with each new trailer is just how indispensable Pine is going to end up being to the success of the whole thing (if it is successful). Seemed odd that he was so gung ho initially to take what was assumed to be a second fiddle role, but it's clearer to me now that Trevor is the audience surrogate here as well as love interest/ action partner. And he's looked on point in every scene so far.
Gotta say I'm also happy to see the lasso being used so liberally. I expected a lot of sword and shield action, but the lasso has always the one iconic prop I've most associated with the character.

The trailers really aren't selling me on the Amazonian scenes. Not sure what it is but they feel off somehow to me. As far as the rest of the trailer it looks good but it feels very much like we've been there and done that and the differences are that it's Wonder Woman instead of Captain America and that it's World War I instead of World War II. That's not to say it looks bad just I'm not blown away by it or anything. I'll see it and hopefully it's good.

Can't wait, my most anticipated movie of the summer/year. WW was the first woman SH, she should be the first woman SH movie (OK, Supergirl had hers, that almost does not could...so bad).
Have loved watching the SH's I grew up with on the big screen, both Marvel and DC.
Trailer for WW looks great...my wife is really looking forward to it.

Elektra as well. And of course there are a bunch of sci fi/action franchises starring women.

The critic reviews should be interesting. They bent over backwards praising Ghostbusters.

DC films still make tons of money even if people hate them. But this film could be a small step in the right direction for female lead SH films.

And just to be clear because i've argued with you a bit already on these things, I liked Man of Steel and enjoyed Suicide Squad more then I thought, so i'm not arguing for the sake of just hating on DC.
