Re: Avengers: Infinity War (4/27/18) D: The Russo Bros.

EXCLUSIVE: Disney/Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War arrived on tracking today with numbers that literally indicate the movie could open to $200M-plus, easily on its way to a record April debut. Note this is an industry prediction, not one from Disney. The studio is historically conservative with their projections.

The asterisk here is that when films chart this high on tracking, it becomes hard to predict their opening, and we also have to remind you of the cap that April has: its record $100M-plus weekends of Furious 7 ($147M) and Fate of the Furious ($98.7M) occurred over Easter holiday weekends, while The Jungle Book popped to a $103.2M during the middle of the month. Only 5% K-12 and 4% colleges are off during the April 27-29 opening weekend for Infinity War, but school never stopped the kids from fueling a record weekend at the box office. Furthermore there were slightly more schools on break on Infinity War‘s original weekend of May 4 (2% K-12 and 16% colleges per ComScore).

Does anyone know if Samuel L. is in this as Nick Fury? It's pretty close to a deal breaker if he isn't.

He's not. Best as I can ascertain, Samuel L Jackson's deal was for a finite number of movies and they've already burned through most of them. He will return in the prequel movie Captain Marvel though.

He might be in Avengers 4. He and Colbie Smulders were seen filming. I believe that was before Captain Marvel started filming.

I saw the IMAX 3D trailer before Ready Player One the other day.
It looked really good!
IMAX is about 45 min away from me, so I don't get there often. But I might have to go see this on IMAX after seeing the trailer.

I just did my part to contribute to what might be a record breaking opening weekend and bought a ticket for the first Saturday XD showing at the Pacific Commons Cinemark. I need to make sure to get a good nights sleep so I do not konk out during the show due to it being a 09:25 am showtime, which is early for even this early bird movie time fan.

How can this not open to over $200? Seems dumb to speculate that it won't. It is weird though I have seen a few projections that state it tops out less than Black Panther. That seems odd to me as well. Granted there will be more competition but this seems like THE one to see in the theater.

If Infinity War doesn't top Black Panther, does that mean we've hit peak superhero and it's downhill from there?

That question is kind of academic. There is no chance of Infinity War not beating Black Panther, either on opening weekend or overall.

Actually, BP opened against weak competition and was(is) riding a wave of diversity and capturing the zeitgeist. Even now, it's still doing great business because there is no direct counter programming in theaters.

In comparison, IW has two weeks alone before films like SOLO and DP2 drop. The legs on BP have been insane, with very few comps, and by comparison IW, although it may open higher, won't have that staying power. I can maybe see it clearing $500-550, but BP will win overall domestically. Overseas, IW should clean up to higher grosses.

Re: Avengers: Infinity War (4/27/18) D: The Russo Bros.

BP got great reviews, and Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim both faltered. BP also has great word of mouth and I'm guessing a lot of repeat viewing. If IW has great reviews, it's almost certain it'll ride a big wave of word of mouth and repeat viewing. And if Solo and DP2 ends up with so-so reviews, IW will ride into the $600 mil territory domestically. I think Solo may underperform a bit and DP2 will suffer from the "not as good as the first" which will clear the path for IW to ride a 3-5 week #1 stay.

For some reason that line just struck me and I think it is the funniest line of the series.

Re: Avengers: Infinity War (4/27/18) D: The Russo Bros.

This movie will do over $200 mill opening weekend EASILY. Probably set a new record. This is for sure gonna be another MCU movie that enters the billion dollar box office league, and I would not be surprised if its their highest success so far. I know they are saying this movie will stand on its own, and Avengers 4 will also be stand alone, but I think they are playing their cards very close to their chest. Their is no doubt in my mind that these two movies will be a singular story arc. I mean fr a start they originally announced them as parts 1 and 2, and then there is the fact they have been filming both at the same time. I still think IW will end on some kind of cliffhanger and as Blue I think already said it will probably with Thanks snapping his fingers (and maybe all the hero's trying to stop him doing this), fade to black and ait for the next movie to see the result.

And so happy my Marvel Legends Infinity Gauntlet finally shipped and should be here Monday. Contemplating wearing it to the movie.

That would have been the case with Avengers 2 doing worse than Avengers 1.

False. They were not filmed at the same time. They were two separate productions.
