Saw it. Liked it. I liked the lead actor. A little darker and edgier than the usual young adult adaptation. Also, the lack of any love triangle our romance in general was a nice change of pace for this kinda movie.
Looks like its doing well at the box office too. In down for a sequel (due next September)

Looks like they did a lot with their relatively small $30m budget.

I enjoyed it overall. The lead was strong. I don't really feel like they answered a lot of questions... but I guess that's left for a sequel...

I thought it was very mediocre. Acting was fine though.
Boring creature designs, Cliche characters like worthless young fat kid, Black people still suck as characters apparently, and the girl really doesn't do much. I'm actually amazed the film didn't try to go hormonal with her around. Cuz... you knows. These guys... they've been alone for a while. Unless they went queer, which I'd guess some would, they'd probably want to fuck the first girl they've seen since coming out of ground.
It's a poor retread of much more superior thematic sources. Good thing my friend took me. I saw it for free. I'd see a sequel though, it seemed like it was getting interesting in the very end. Otherwise.... Meh.

I enjoyed the first book, but thought it ended on a strange note. I'm sure it would have all made sense with the sequels, which I still need to pick up at some point.

I would have enjoyed it a LOT more had the gender of the cast completely in reverse. 30+ females and one last male. hmmmmm............... Yummmm...............

Finally saw this last night and I'm pretty disappointed. Tons of needless changes and and they spent absolutely no time showing you any of the characters personality.

ha ha, love that damn pelican.
I read all 4 books while on my YA dystopian fiction kick - first book is really pretty good (this movie), remaining ones are a pretty big letdown (but i won't spoil anything).
I agree it did seem like changes for the sake of changes, but some of the changes did result in more action - although it may have been at the expense of character development. Some of the "sad" parts rang hollow because you really didn't know the characters.
Also never really felt a threat from the Grievers. Even when they were tearing shit up, they never felt scary to me.
It also got a little matrix-y exposition-y at the end. I almost feel like they should have left any explanation about why they were in there for a sequel. It kind of ground the movie to a halt.
But for the positive, i thought all the actors were pretty good (even though Gally is a pretty big departure looks-wise from the book), and the set/costume designs were pretty good. I'd see a sequel (although my expectations are low - i actually would welcome changes for the follow-ups)
As YA dystopian fiction movies go, i'd put this up there just below Hunger Games, and certainly above Divergent and The Giver.

Never read the books.
I enjoyed it. Well shot, paced and acted.
I lol'd at the fat kid keeping up with the rest of the group. If that were me, I would have had a side cramp after 200 feet.

I ran through all 3 of the Maze Runner books in a week whereas I got bored 100 pages into The Mockingjay last year and still haven't finished it.

Just saw it. I've never read the books, but I thoroughly enjoy it. It's up there with the second "Hunger Games" film as the best YA movie to date (IMO). Nice cast, the acting was really good. Nicely paced. Thumbs up here.

Anyway as for The Maze Runner, I just watched it today. I didn't really like it. I never read the book it was based on, so I felt like I was missing a lot. I am confused as to what the heck the maze trials purpose even was. Also, there was no character development, so I didn't care one bit when the fat kid died, even though the movie clearly wanted you to feel something with the way it lingered on the dead fat kid. I half expected to hear a Darth Vader style "NOOOOOOOOOO!" over the dead fat kid.

I like Chunk from The Goonies. He was awesome. The fat kid from The Maze Runner was not awesome though. I can't even remember his name, even though I just watched the movie earlier today. That's how unmemorable he was.
