I liked "The Devil's Rejects" a lot. I like a lot of what he did with "Halloween", but I didn't care for his making (intentionally or not) "Michael Myers" more sympathetic than his victims. I appreciated "Lords of Salem" though I found it a bit slow at times.
What intrigues me is the deal he made on both "Halloween" films, -that he'd turn out a quickie version for theatrical release if he'd be given time and money to do a longer and more thought-out edit for home video. There are some interesting differences between the two versions, with "Halloween 2" being quite different in the "Director's Cut".

The "Love Hurts" scene in "Halloween" is one of the most unintentionally hilarious scenes in the history of world cinema.

Looks fun.

But LORDS had one of the best trailers I've ever seen, that turned out to be one of the biggest piece if shit I've ever seen.

On the plus side, love Brake. He is one creepy fucker.

Richard Brake was pretty awesome in that trailer. Will probably see this as I enjoy Zombie's films.

Meh. Same old bag old tricks.
I may watch it at some point but his formula is the same every time now and it's boring.

I'd rather he stop doing movies and get a White Zombie reunion/tour going.

If Rob Zombie the filmmaker was a fighter, he'd have a losing record. And Halloween 1 & 2 would be near career ending knock outs. I'll probably see this at some point, but it doesn't look very good and his last 3 films have been the shits.

Fathom Events is hosting a one-night Advance Screening at theaters across the country for 31.

It'll screen around 2 weeks earlier (9/1/16) than the Limited Theatrical Release.

To put it nicely ... it sucked.

First, he needs to stop putting his wife in every movie. She's a terrible actress and every scene she's in just brings anything to a stop. At one point she clearly speaks and there is no sound. And when she isn't - it's all shaky camera, and close-ups of who knows what. It's style over substance.

It's like Zombie wanted to mix The Hunger Games with the Purge. The ultimate insult came after the film when they had a pre-recorded Q&A with Zombie where he admits that he came up with the premise while on the phone with a producer (trying to figure what would sell).

Another complaint - why do we need one bad guy who speaks Spanish for most of his lines and another who speaks in German. Seriously, it made no sense (and should have been swapped considering how they were portrayed).

There wasn't even much gore (to make up for everything else). 1/5 stars. I need to go watch Devils Rejects to get this turd out of my head.

I laughed when they did the pre recorded Q&A and he mentioned how he came up with the film. Got to feel bad that his true passion project wasn't going to get made so he came up with a random idea and it sold. At least he's honest about it.

The movie is ok, for the most part. Like probably most, Sheri probably shouldn't have had that many lines and been a side role. . Look at Eli Roth and him using his wife in every film now. You got a hot wife, you flaunt her in your films. End of story.

The star in the film was Richard Brake. He had The Crow look going on and reminded me of Otis in House of 1000 Corpses/Devils Reject. Loved his lines and he was a badass.

As for the gore, it had more gore than most horror films. I wish there was a bit more story (how the game developed, what they were betting on exactly, etc.) but this didn't feel rushed like Lords of Salem nor all over the place like Halloween 2.

This is Zombie's 6th live action film. You know what to expect by now...

I felt that, other than the chainsaw sequence - there was very little gore, and most of it was either offscreen or quickly cut away from.

The few people that stayed for the Zombie interview video after the film got a laugh when he said H2 was his best film.

I saw it as Hunger Games with a splash of Running Man and the Purge films. In fact, Zombie references Running Man, but claims it had no influence on this movie.

Richard Brake's performance as Doom-Head was easily the BEST part of this film. Any time he was on-screen, I got excited.

When he's not on-screen? The film (for whatever reason) seems to have a ridiculously languid pace. The editing was a bit sloppy for me, both because there were so many shaky camera movements but because rarely (when Doom-Head wasn't on-screen) did I feel a sense of urgency or even dread. The characters (who are all mostly thinly written) just sort of walk around.

In that Fathom Events Q&A, Zombie said there were only 2 cuts he made to the film (I'm guessing on top of the later MPAA cuts) but that those cuts were unnecessary scenes. I'm not sure how much gore was cut out but given how shaky some of the camera shots were when gore was happening, I'm not sure what was cut out would save those scenes alone, unless there is some alternate cut where the camera work isn't taking place in a Washing Machine.

Most of the theater stayed for the Q&A. I bounced after about 10 minutes or so as my friend and I had work very early in the morning. I am very curious why he said H2 was his best film as he has trashed it in just about every interview. I will say, huge difference between Director's Cut and Theater Release. The DC was actually decent, but I for one do not consider it his best film.

Yeah, a lot of the gore did happen off screen, but the opening had some good gore and there was other parts. Sometimes, what happens off screen does more than what happens on screen (think Psycho). Now, not saying Zombie has put together anywhere close to a Psycho movie, but just the point that I felt there was a decent amount of gore and the off screen stuff was good enough.

You are one of the few that does not like his wife. I will say, with this movie, she is way too skinny. However, in the other films, she's beautiful.

I found some humor in some of the other characters. Wish Tommy Pickles/Dottie had more screen time, but what can you do. They were sadly the worst of the killers. And there is a director's cut coming. I read there is a decent amount of cuts and an extended dinner scene.

Everything just felt so stiff.

If there were cuts, I hope they help the pacing of the film. We all can assume a good amount of cuts were to the gore.

So this was released today on itunes. Is there any word of an unrated BluRay release because so far just the R Rated version is available. I haven't watched it yet & am curious what everyone who has seen it thinks. How does it compare to his other films?

The bookends are similar to Devil's Rejects, but the entire middle act almost felt like a return to the zaniness of House/Corpses.

Oh, and Rob still has problems in making his films look like they're set in the 70s. No way would those ornament-chicks be shaved downstairs. -ptth-

I'm curious: When or with whom did Rob Zombie learn to direct? It seems like he started making multi million dollar movies out of nowhere (starting in 2003).
