Yeah IM3 just didn't have much of the actual Iron Man, it was more Black, talk and set up rather than action and it was so anti-suit...

Not to mention they fucked up the Mandarin with the fake-out. The minisode sort of redeemed it, but I seriously doubt they'll ever follow it up by bringing in the real Mandarin.

I will always say (in hindsight after Avengers 2) that they should have replaced the kid subplot with a subplot of tony creating ultron. Tony could still hate the suit, thus his desire to create something that can protect the world. The ending could have been ultron controlling the suits instead of Jarvis. That would have also benefited Avengers 2, as Ultron's shift to human destruction wouldn't have seemed so rushed. He would have started as a means of protection, but then come to learn that the only way to protect humanity from itself is to destroy it (same conclusion as avengers 2, but a little more on-screen development time).

I think it does that while also having a chance to mention Kurt Russell is in the movie and keeping the intrigue as to what character he's playing.

Gunn posted this on social media today...for those interested:
There are two things you can be sure of in my films: 1) There will be a character named Fitzgibbon. And 2) There will be a Rob Zombie voice cameo. Yesterday Rob came by to lend his voice to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Now it'll be up to you guys to find it.

IIRC didn't he state that one of the biggest Easter Eggs from the first film had not been found yet? Or has it and what was it?

It is funny how so many things from GotG can be shown out of context and look like bad Star Wars rip offs, yet in film look so damned perfect.

It looks fun and i can't wait to see it. I would rather they didn't add the reveal in at the end. Too many trailers give important plot points away. I do get the impression by showing Kurt though that they are holding back on maybe showing the characters "true" form at some point in the movie. That will probably play as a big reveal.
