Finally watched this over the weekend and was amazed at how idiotic it was. Even at 90 minutes, I had a hard time finishing this. Absolute garbage.

I watched this over the weekend on Fox on Demand and they ran it "edited for content." There were obviously pieces missing from the action scenes.

I remember liking this a lot (see post #88 from three years ago in this thread), but it didn't quite hold up as well. Too many plot holes glared at me this time. Scarlett tends to hold it together and she makes it worth watching. Probably would have worked better as an anime production.

This was close to being a great movie. More than anything, I admired its pursuit of working philosophical ideas into the plot and action. It was very inventive in that way. Leading to a solid climax, that was based on ideas more than action. With invincible characters like Lucy, it's always harder to feel the danger and intensity.

Funny but I recently watched Walter Hill's The Driver from 1978.
I had the exact same reaction to that as you had to Lucy.

In fact, the Roger Ebert quote sums up my feelings perfectly. That was an insulting movie to me, while I found Lucy to be simply charming nonsense.

Haven't revisited it though, so my opinion could change. I recently rewatched Aliens again for the umpteenth time, and for the very first time I came away kind of hating it. :(

I was pleasantly surprised by Lucy. I'd been curious about it for some time, found the BD+DVD Combo of it at The Exchange for $5, when this movie finished I decided that I was glad I bought it. The wife liked it too. Thoroughly entertaining movie and the ending surprised and satisfied. Good flick...

The ending reminded me of serial experiments Lain, which I appreciated.
