Agreed. And today, a politician can't say anything as the other side will ALWAYS find something bad to say. Just look at what is happening with Obama and Trump. The left is just tearing to shreds the Trump family (even the child) and the right calls foul, even though the right said some nasty remarks about the outfits Michelle has worn. Then, "breaking news", Obama decided to marry Michelle and not some other girl because of his career (which MANY people do) and the right is tearing him down, but Trump can marry a woman because of how hot she is and that's really it. So a politician really can't say anything as the other side will always f them over.
