I use my Roku as much as I use my BD player and I can say it is def not the same experience. Does it work just fine? Absolutely. But you can't tell me a compressed stream with lossy audio compares to a BD. And when both are practically the same price, why compromise on quality?

With the combination of disc to digital and VUDU credits, you can literally get thousands of titles for about 50 cents each.

Yeah iTunes/Vudu stuff is lossier, it's noticeable but usually only bothers me on something like Mad Max, where the audio is great but could be exemplary (as the Blu-ray is).
The video quality has never been an issue for me.

Okay, the Jackass mashup made me lol.
As usual, the messed up cast names are the best.

Thought this was pretty solid. Hardy was great, DiCaprio was decent. Cinematography amazing. Enjoyed the sparseness of the script, actually. It was essentially a survival and revenge tale where the harsh conditions substituted for a lot of the dialogue.

I think it definitely had a plot. Trappers, guide gets mauled, left behind for dead after son is murdered, survives the elements while seeking revenge.

Well I definitely agree with you there. It was probably half an hour too long at least. I thought it was solid, but there were many other films last year that were way better (Room, Spotlight, Sicario, Brooklyn to name a few).

Watched this for the first time. I haven't a clue what to make of this film. When nearly every single moment was cribbed from another director's work, and the scant few moments that weren't cribbed from him were cribbed from another, and a substantial amount of that director's frequent collaborators were hired to work on this film, what am supposed to do? Applaud Inarritu for being such a spectacular thief? The same way someone sort of respects the world's greatest jewel thief? This movie is like a practical joke.

The film is 99% Tarkovsky and 1% Malick. Same production designer and DP as The New World. Same first shot as The New World. The whole thing goes way beyond homage.

Ehhhhh. Chivo has worked w/ Iñárritu before this film. And has had a very long friendship w/ him. It's not amazing that Chivo worked w/ the director this time.
Not sure why del Toro never worked w/ him. He did like to keep the other Guillermo w/ him a lot though. It's all good though.

While obviously you like what you like and I wouldn't try telling you you're wrong. Maybe go back and re-watch it? there are a ton of underlying tones in this flick. Normally I don't care about that kind of stuff but it's the foundation for this flick and it worked well.

There's nothing in this film remotely as nuanced as the things those directors did. This film just mimics cinematography. Nothing more.
