Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

I voted "No" because I do not love Robert Duvall.

He's a great actor and I like seeing him perform, but he's not one of my favorite actors and I never have sought out a movie just because Robert Duvall was in it.

I don't love him or hate him, but he is a damned fine actor.

Count me as another one who appreciates him in The Inheritors. Excellent episode(s), blows the updated version out of the known universe.

Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

Can't blame him for being MIA in Godfather III. Pacino wanted $7million instead of the $5M offered. They rewrote the script, writing out Michael. The film was to begin with his funeral. Pacino settled for the $5M.
Diane Keaton was offered $1.5M
Duvall was offered $1M. I would have told them to fuck off too.
Sinatra was supposed to play the Eli Wallach role. He told them to fuck off when he got their offer.

I love Robert Duvall as much as I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

Eh, everything is at this point. A man coming home and reconnecting with his father, figuring out what he wants in life - I don't mind watching that same story every few years if it's done well.

Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

In addition to all of the work he was clearly passionate about, I think back to all of the paycheck movies he did in the 80s and 90s where he legitimized the movie. Isn't Days of Thunder better b/c you believe Robert Duvall? Who else could have pulled off the John Glenn role in Deep Impact?

I would tap him gently on the ass and tell him he's a great actor. But as far as loving him no.

I really like his westerns he does - such as Open Range, Broken Trail and Lonesome Dove

Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

He's a solid character actor who can elevate almost any movie he's in, but I won't go out of my way to see a movie he's in.

And, I agree that Tom Hagen was sorelly missed in Godfather III. Just one of the many problems with that film.

Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

I like GF 3, and I actually thought George Hamilton did fine with his role, but w/o Duvall there just really wasn't enough counter weight to Michael.

Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

I always considered Duvall a fine character actor that could pull off a lead performance in the right role. He did excellent work in Tomorrow, which has recently been made available on Blu-ray. It's practically an unknown movie today but Tomorrow is definitely worth seeing somewhere.

Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

I've never considered Robert Duvall to be just a character actor. While its true he's had quite a few smaller supporting roles that were great, but he's also done a ton of great work in ensemble pieces and as a lead.

Re: Do you love Robert Duvall?

The man gave one of the most iconic (IMHO) performances on screen in Apocalypse Now (biased as this is one of my favorite movies), so yes. Love me some Duval.

He's a good actor, but I don't particularly love him at all.
