Scott Derrickson, who was recently tapped to direct Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” has come on board MGM’s long-stalled “The Outer Limits” movie.

That segment aired in 1964 and centered on a man with a computerized hand and no memory of the previous 10 days who discovers he’s from the future and being hunted by aliens.
Derrickson’s credits also include “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” and “Deliver Us From Evil,” which opens July 2 and stars Eric Bana and Olivia Munn.
Jon Spaihts recently came on board to write “Doctor Strange.”

Sounds more like a film inspired by The Outer Limits than Outer Limits: The Movie.
I'd much prefer an anthology film than a movie based off of a single episode.

Meh. Like the new Twilight Zone film I'm not that interested in it since it's based on a single story rather than going the anthology route.

Do anthology movies have any broad appeal? I know movie geeks like us are into them, but would it make any money at all without names like Tarantino or Cameron attached?

I think they would have appeal when it's done with spectacle but I do agree that having big names would cause a draw. It's probably more that those big directors have big ideas and budgets to match so that it seperates itself from tv.
That said, I think it's ok for the Outer Limits to be a single story because the episodes tended to have stories that were singular focused in their characters and situations.

Let's be honest though, do brands like The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits even have that much appeal? To the mainstream audience it'll just be the name of the film it's not like they'll be seeing the films because they're diehard fans of the shows. If they're making films of these shows at all I'd rather see them done in a fashion that respects what the shows were about. Plus really I can't even think of the last big anthology film. It seems like they rarely happen anymore so who's to say it might not work?

Why not combine several of the alien invasion episodes into one story? Although with so many big-budget alien invasion movies in the last 18 years, it seems like they've already done that. And didn't Cameron's TERMINATOR already combine two of the best episodes?

Maybe this will get the original series another release. The used prices are utterly frigging ridiculous. I suppose it's too much to hope that it'll get released on Blu.
