Ha, kids are more sensitive to violence than adults since they haven't been too exposed to it in their short life times, I vividly remember violence in some of the movies I saw. At the end of Dick Tracy I definitely remember one character getting shot in the head (although there was no blood) and several others getting mowed down by a tommy gun.

Now when I see that scene as an adult I immediately think, Dick Tracy would immediately have been kicked off the police force for essentially just going on a killing spree.

And considering it made $457M worldwide on a reportedly $130M budget, plus anything they got on DVD/Blu-ray/rentals, it didn't do bad at all. Add to that I doubt Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha (or Jon Voight) cost that much, the budget for a third would still be manageable.

I asked my daughter what she remembered about her reaction to DICK TRACY and here's her response:

I haven't seen it since but I thought it was super cool back then. I had a black Breathless Mahoney t-shirt with Madonna on it that I wore a lot.

Re: Cancelled sequels that you were looking forward to?

I wonder how Dick Tracy 2 would have worked, didn't he kill like everyone in the climax? I remember seeing it at like six and my Dad saying it was really violent for kids. Plus I think Big Boy slaps Madonna around.
Seems like every year there's a movie in which a parent complains about it being too violent for kids. I remember seeing it at 7 and thinking it was really cool. But a concept like that how can it not be violent? Have them shoot BB's?

Dick Tracy could give all his missions to a cartoon dog or a racist stereotype for them to bumble through.

Possibly because the first two weren't very good? All the pieces were there to make great movies but they just fell flat both times.

Rocketeer 2

Disney botched the marketing on the first one, and that's why it became the only one (they originally planned on a franchise). Bummer. It's a really good movie.

Quality wasn't the issue as both were extremely well received, the first movie has an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes and the second movie is at 87% and one of the higher rated comic book movies.

Not that Hellboy 2 would have been a blockbuster, but it also happened to open the week before The Dark Knight and a 70% second week drop.

Yeah, insanity that they decided to open a week before TDK.

Botched the marketing, they botched the movie too. That movie was terrible.

Ummmm.... No. I think you may be the only one who thinks that. (Checking... yeah, just you.)

Seriously, The Rocketeer got glowing reviews and fan reaction was very positive. There's a reason why Joe Johnston got the first Captain America gig, and that reason is The Rocketeer.

He certainly didn't get it for Jurassic Park III.

I'm still holding out hope for a Breakin' 3. I want to find out what happens to the Electric Boogaloo.

Heard there was supposed to be a 3rd Tony Manero movie too, after Saturday Night Fever and Staying Alive. Maybe they could have him doing that "B-Boy" thing.

I would have loved one final movie with The Next Generation cast as that's probably my overall favorite cast of any Trek. I'll be honest I know that Nemesis was a let down but there are some things in it that I like. I think the reason it gets a lot of hate is the fact that it is the last one and it felt like a downer for that cast when they should have went out with a bang.

Just imagine the hilarity that would ensue when he walks into a McDonalds in France and try to order a Quarter Pounder with cheese.

Like Prometheus and the Star Wars Prequels have proven, some ideas are better left with the imagination.

Yeah, TNG cast ending with Star Trek: Nemesis was like the original cast ending with Star Trek V: The Final Frontier instead of the next and far better one.
