I started reading this book to my daughter this week and thought it would make a good movie. I must have missed this thread.

Sad that Melissa Mathison died so recently, it was nice to see her name attached with Spielberg's again.

Reminds me of the kid's bedroom in Hook.

For the record, and it probably goes without saying, it stands for Big Friendly Giant. It was read by one of my teachers way back when I was in elementary school, and I remember loving it, though can't remember much about it to be honest.

Spielberg's first movie for Disney (as a director), right?

I was iffy on this as to whether I'd see this in theaters but goddamn you, Spielberg. I'm on board now.

I wonder if Melissa Matheson ever saw any footage of this before she passed away.

Yep. That trailer sold a lot more than the previous stuff. I was iffy before but not now.

Looks dreadful. I don't know what's wrong with Spielberg, but he hasn't made a good movie in a while.

He did his "serious" historical movies (Bridge of Spies, Lincoln, War Horse, and stretching back a ways, Munich) and over corrected when trying to resume family fare.

I think The BFG looks decent enough from a content perspective, but the CG is just really off putting.

I need to check out Tintin sometime.

Stupid of them to not reconsider the title and go with something besides BFG.

And yeah, the CG is off-putting - like all those CG movies Robert Zemeckis keeps trying to make. Which is too bad, because Spielberg's Tin Tin had none of that.

Tin tin was awful. Munich was his last great film.
