Splinter Cell (D: Liman) S: Tom Hardy
Paramount has acquired film rights to Tom Clancy's video game Splinter Cell and hired Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) to direct.
Variety says Berg is writing the script along with Splinter Cell game writer J.T. Petty and John J. McLaughlin (Man of the House). Paramount said the movie is aimed at combining the game's blend of stealth action with a "dynamic, original" character. The game, now in its second edition, follows the adventures of government spy Sam Fisher as he's dispatched to infiltrate an international terrorist syndicate and stop a high-tech threat. Published by Ubisoft, Splinter Cell has been one of the most successful "stealth" action games. The first two games in the series, "Splinter Cell" and "Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow," have already sold more than 6 million units worldwide, and a third, "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory," is slated for release in March. |
But the question is...will George Clooney star?
|
Peter Berg? Hollywood has so many untalented directors making huge movies.
|
Eh, who knows. He's never done a movie of this type, but his action debut was a decent actioner (The Rundown). He's definately a better filmmaker than any of the guys who've made video game adaptations in the past.
|
I hope Michael Ironside will be in it.
|
Have Clooney play in it but dub in Ironside's voice.
|
I liked the Rundown.
Who should star? Kiefer Sutherland! |

Fuck Splinter Cell! They need to make a Rainbow Six movie.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414429/ Spoke too soon! I haven't heard a thing about this. |

I've always thought William Peterson would be good as Sam Fisher, maybe moreso in his To Live and Die in L.A. days though.
|
Berg has potential. His dark comedy "Very Bad Things" was pretty good. And "The Rundown" was a surprisingly decent action film.
|
Gotta be Clooney, gotta be Clooney. And it can't be Keifer, since Dennis Haysbert should certainly be reprising his role of Irving Lambert, and we can't make this "24-The Movie".

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie, Tom Hardy is Sam Fisher.

Hardy has signed on to play Sam Fisher, lead of the Splinter Cell videogames in a new movie that, as of yet, hasn’t even got the backing of a studio. The game follows the stealthy sneaking and creeping of Fisher, a special agent for the FSA – which basically amounts to him being a gadgety ninja. Variety say that Ubisoft have been developing the film with screenwriter Eric Singer who previously penned The International and David O. Russell‘s pending picture that goes, for now, by the name of American Bullshit. Ubisoft’s statement says: Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills. His involvement in the ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’ movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and … we’re confident he’ll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story … while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans. http://i.imgur.com/GIM0l.jpg |
Re: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie, Tom Hardy is Sam Fisher.
I thought he was up for the John Clark role in Without Remorse that would crossover with the Jack Ryan movie...

Re: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie, Tom Hardy is Sam Fisher.
This could be okay. I like the games and Tom Hardy is a pretty good actor.
|
Re: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie, Tom Hardy is Sam Fisher.
Uh, do people still play the Splinter Cell games?
|
Re: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie, Tom Hardy is Sam Fisher.
With all the bullshit rambling he did in TDKR, I would have sooner expected him to be cast in the Metal Gear movie.

Not keen on this new Splinter Cell game.

Nothing major but per Variety: New Regency set to produce Splinter Cell; Fox likely to distribute

I always imagined Splinter Cell as a tv show. If any Tom Clancy property should be made a move The Cardinal of The Kremlin would be good in a period piece Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy way.

Splinter Cell (2015, Liman) S: Tom Hardy
Did a search but didn't find a movie thread...
Doug Liman is in final negotiations to direct Splinter Cell, the adaptation of the Ubisoft video game which the company is developing with New Regency. Tom Hardy is attached to star in the feature, which is now eyeing an August start date and a planned 2015 release. Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and Jean-Julien Baronnet of Ubisoft Motion Picture Group are producing. Liman will also produce along with his partner, David Bartis. Liman’s boarding now brings the project the closest its been to the runway. Cell was previously in development at DreamWorks and Paramount and at one point had Pete Berg attached to direct. |
Re: Splinter Cell (2015, Liman) S: Tom Hardy
We had a thread on SC. We also mentioned the last development of it as well.
You did the basic search, yes? It's a piece of shit. |

Re: Splinter Cell (2015, Liman) S: Tom Hardy
Doug Liman has revealed that his forthcoming Splinter Cell movie will deal with a younger Sam Fisher, and stated that he’s looking forward to bringing a stripped down version of the character to the big screen. Liman is currently doing the publicity rounds for new film Edge of Tomorrow, and explained that he and star Tom Hardy are currently busy developing their next project... “I’m working on the script with Tom Hardy” he explained. “I think we have a great take on how to make an awesome film out of that.” Liman acknowledged that Hardy is pretty young to be playing Sam Fisher, revealing “Everything about Splinter Cell will be younger. It’s a chance to come up with a new franchise that is fresher and newer and younger, and Tom Hardy is such an incredible actor.” As for whether or not those iconic ‘Multi-Vision Goggles’ will feature, Liman said “Some of the tropes of the game will for sure be in the film, but also the fun of that is when you lose them. To strip that stuff away and really make the character have to operate without it. “ Splinter Cell is due to hit screens sometime next year, while Edge of Tomorrow is out now in the UK and releases worldwide over the next few days. |

Ya know, Tom Hardy ain't THAT young. Hardy is nearing 40 years old, the way they talk you'd think they hired an 18 year old for the role.

Re: Splinter Cell (2015, Liman) S: Tom Hardy
EXCLUSIVE: New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have set Frank John Hughes to write the next draft of the movie adaptation of the video game series Splinter Cell. The film has Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Tom Hardy attached to star and Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk producing with John Julian, Dave Bartis and Liman. They are taking their time getting this one right as Eric Warren Singer wrote the first draft and Sheldon Turner has been among the scribes working on this. Hughes, who as an actor has been seen in 24, The Sopranos and Band Of Brothers, most recently adapted the sci-fi novel Shovel Ready for Warner Bros. Hardy will play Sam Fisher, a highly trained special operative in a fictional black-ops sub-division, “Echelon.” Fisher and the agents of Echelon utilize combat skills, weapons and cutting-edge gadgets to neutralize international terrorist threats and rogue forces in modern, realistic stories ripped from the headlines. Fisher is repped by UTA. Weird hire. FJH is a steady working actor, with no real writing credits. |
