i have started to collect vcds not the bootleg ones but the real legit ones

i use and old 21" flat screen crt tv and they look great i prefer them over dvds as they take up less space and i can fit more oh my shelf and the cases look nicer then dvd cases
if you collect vcd movies would love too see some photos of your collection

That sounds like a very exclusive club. Didn't realize there were any collectors out there. We don't even hear much from LD collectors anymore so kudos to you. You should combine with Beta, 8mm video, and HD Digital Tape to get a couple more people in the group. Basically every dead format

I've only got 3 (Won via contest)
Shaw Bros films: Killer Clans, Bastard Swordsman and something-something ...Imperial Courtesan. I remember the audio was terrible on one of them. Everyone spoke with an echo.

I have no idea what a vcd is. Sounds like an STD.

A friend of mind has about a thousand VCDs, all of Hong Kong films. He acknowledges that the quality isn't the best, but it's the most affordable way for him to get his HK cinema fix.

The only one I own is Drunken Master II (1994) that Mei Ah put out a while back.

Re: Vcd Collectors
The Shaw Bros. VCDs were much higher quality than normal for a VCD and it was a way to pick up tons of Shaw Bros. films cheap, esp. in the genres I wouldn't normally buy (e.g. comedies, musicals, melodramas, etc.). If one of them turned out to be real good and the DVD was still in print, I'd upgrade.
Also, because the DVDs were R3, I would get VCDs of popular kung fu titles so that I could lend them to friends who didn't have code-free players.

It's the only way to get a lot of HK films, as far as I know. Don't think the format took off anywhere except there, and there's probably a good reason for that, but I have a few films in the format you can't get any other way: Drunken Master II (God dammit!), Fist of Legend, Police Story IV: First Strike, and Tsui Hark's The Blade.

My friend used to have the LD of Drunken Master II until he dropped it and it broke into a several pieces. It was the original HK version. Those used to go for like $100, because they were technically imports.
