Saw this yesterday.

Not bad. Not good.

Oldman was fantastic.

Everything with Samuel L Jackson was absolutely terrible.

I can't believe he was the worst part of the movie, but I don't blame him. I blame the script and director.
It's important to have a great director for a flick like this.

Did anyone else think/hope that Robocop was going to bust in and disrupt the closing scene with Samuel L Jackson to arrest him? Or maybe have a quick shootout with SLJ's "people" and then he escapes, setting him us as the bad guy for the sequel? Really anything to end the movie with more of a punch.

Redboxed the BD and it was just ok. Nowhere near as atrocious as I was expecting. It doesn't have a soul like the original and what little "soul" it tries to have falls flat. I did enjoy the opening scenes, because you haven't lived until you've heard an ED-209 say "Peace be upon you" and "As-salamu alaykum."

Oldman was fine and so was Kinnaman. The reason why it suffers is do to it being tied to a leash by the rating. You can't go crazy like the first film in terms of conveying a scathing satire. They stripped that off and turned it into an action flick. It was surprising to see that Neumier and Miner were credited as screenwriters. What happened? Damn studio meddling is what happened.

The Novak shit was amusing but very try-hard, which sucked, because that's where they decided to move the satire to.

Anyways, the BD has great video and audio quality.

EDIT - I did think what was left of Murphy's organics was creepy. He was literally just a pair of lungs, a brain, a head, face, and a hand. The way that was shown gave me goosebumps just because it was creepy as all hell.

I liked this a hell of a lot more than I was expecting to. I liked the logic of the film. The way the computer network gathered and used information. It was interesting and an upgrade on the original. I also like how it was so clearly an origin movie, right down to the way the 3rd act set it up perfectly for a sequel. A sequel I assume were never getting. I thought the entire cast was totally solid all the way through. Its a shame we wont be getting another one. I thought it was the second best Robocop movie outside of the original. Which I suppose doesn't say all that much.

I enjoyed this movie. It's a good movie. It's not really bad. It's just a bit too safe/weak in its ideas.. but it handles it well. I just wish it went harder into the Science Fiction and fleshed out some characters that don't do much.

This sums it up. It never really found it's voice. The first one was so full of commentary (including it's ultra-violence). This one was just kind of 'there', didn't have much to say, and was very unoffensive.

Wait, Another RoboCop Movie May Actually Happen?

In recent weeks, we've been reading reports about how success at the Chinese box office could wind up not only saving Terminator Genisys from being considered a failure, but also convince the studio to make a sequel. If new reports are to be believed, it seems that Sony's RoboCop series might be in the exact same boat.

This story comes from Den of Geek, and while we're not exactly at the point where a RoboCop 2 is going to get the greenlight, the site says that the door isn't completely shut on the idea. When the film was released in theaters in 2014, it only managed to pull in $58 million here in the United States - which was considered pretty damn bad considering that the project came with a $100 million price tag. Helping to balance the scales, however, was the international box office, which boosted the movie's total worldwide performance to nearly $250 million. Add in the estimated $15 million that the movie has made on home video, and you have numbers that suggest that the movie didn't actually do so bad.

Of course, there will be some debate from movie-goers as to whether or not Sony should actually make a RoboCop 2. The film got very mixed reviews when it came out early last year - but I will actually stand up for it. While the film certainly has its shortcomings, director José Padilha does honestly fill the feature with a number of good ideas and sharp commentary - plus he gets really great performances out of Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, and Gary Oldman. There's enough established within the continuity to build on in another story, and I wouldn't mind getting another peek into that universe (even if the last RoboCop II we saw was rather awful).

Den of Geek's unnamed sources say that Sony has been open to pitches from filmmakers who have ideas about possible directions - though it doesn't look as though the project is at the top of their to-do list. This is probably the best position for a potential sequel to be in: it will probably only get made if there's an idea that is really worth pursuing. Most follow-ups in Hollywood aren't developed with this in mind, so it really could wind up being for the best of the franchise.

The only reason I saw the remake was because I had a free ticket, okay, but not great. The only way I will watch a sequel is if they go for a hard R.

Same here. Got the free ticket. Would probably pay for it if it actually was worth my money.

I thought it was an unfocused piece of shit; slick and devoid of any life found in the original film. Everything about it felt like a wasted opportunity, granted an opportunity that never should have been greenlighted.

A piece of shit? Shiiiiiiiiiiiite. If it's that bad for ya... than I've seen some really fucking horrible films before. And I have.

The remake was ok at best. Safe, generic, w/ some nice moments.
