Many to choose from, but for me, definitely Scorsese.

Kevin Smith films are definitely rewatchable. I was reminded again about how unfairly Jersey Girl was treated. The most original movie? No, but a lot of fun with some good laughs and heart.

Re: Director With Best Repeat Viewing Movies

Wong Kar Wai, with his elliptical style of editing he doesn't spell everything out to the audience, leaving the viewer to connect the dots, which leaves his films with an enormous amount of replay value. Every time I watch In the Mood For Love I have a different interpretation about what is happening off screen.

Ingmar Bergman, his films are rarely narrative driven, but usually thoughtful and soul-searching experiences. They often deal with characters that are struggling with the silence of God, and how to find meaning in life. A viewer's personal experience and spirituality will have a huge influence on how they interpret his movies, and I can't imagine watching Winter Light at 15 and 60 and having the same feelings about it.

Seijin Suzuki
because of the sheer madness of his editing. This is a director who was fired because his films were incomprehensible, but there is something about them that are so appealing. He takes standard yakuza stories and films and edits them in a way that elevates the material. I have seen Tokyo Drifter three times and I'm still not entirely sure what's going on, but that just makes me want to see it again.

Paul Verhoeven. Hell, some folks still can't tell Starship Troopers is a satire 15 years after the fact.

I like Verhoeven but I've seen so little of his work. Was that black book one good? It had a trailer that interested me.

Black Book is really fucking good. It's Verhoeven doing a war flick, so it doesn't mince words. That Dutch actress is in it - the chick from Game of Thrones that's the evil redheaded witch. I forget her name. I'm hoping that they release his Dutch films on BD at some point, because his stuff with Rutger Haur is supposedly really good.

IMO those are his best films.

The 4th Man, Turkish Delight, Soldier of Orange, Katie Tippel & Business Is Business

Yeah, we need some proper releases of those. I am aware that a couple of those have already been released in Europe but the BD's aren't great and skimp on many things. I don't even think Verhoeven was involved in any of the supplements or the video/audio transfers.

Re: Director With Best Repeat Viewing Movies

Anchor Bay back in their heyday before the DVD market collapsed released a boxed set of his early Dutch films, but it's out of print now and really expensive. My library network used to let me do out-of-state holds before the funding got cut, but I only managed to order Business is Business, which is vaguely interesting, but by Verhoeven's own admission was only made to appease producers so he could actually make the film he really wanted. They had commentaries from Verhoeven himself now too, I wish someone would rerelease them, but it doesn't look likely.

Same, along with Wes Anderson and Spike Jonze (very much looking forward to Her). I also enjoy the handful of films Duncan Jones has done to this point, too.

Second. The Dark Knight Rises just gets dumber and dumber every time you watch it. Same goes for The Dark Knight.

Lynch and Cronenberg get my my votes for most enjoyable with repeat viewings.

No shit. Maybe cuz you're not an actual fan? Were you a fan before or ever?
