While the jokes are doled out in spades, the reason that so many of the laughs stick is the film’s satirical core, something present in almost all of McKay and Ferrell’s collaborations.

While it won't last, this is currently sitting at 90% with 21 reviews (19 positive, 2 negative). And one of those negative reviews (from the New Yorker) still said it was funny.

I think I'm gonna try and see this tonight at 9pm. I wouldn't normally go during the week at night, but there's a lot of stuff coming out over the next couple of days that I want to see.

Critics that are giving it thumbs up but saying it's not as funny or quotable as the first movie don't give me a lot of confidence, since I HATED the first film. One of those movies where I liked the premise, but couldn't believe how dull the results were. Looks like this is more of the same - I was hoping they'd get it right this time.

It depends on what you're looking for. The first movie was insanely quotable, but most critics are claiming this one has both a better story and more consistent comedy.

It's true. It's not as funny or as quotable as the first film. But it's still hilarious.

I'm not a huge Will Ferrell fan so never saw Talladega Nights, Casa Mi Padre, or Blades of Glory. I liked Semi-Pro but thought he was the worst part of Wedding Crashers, which I liked much more than I expected. But I finally relented recently and watched Anchorman for the comedy challenge, and found it amusing and annoying at the same time, but I did like identifying the various quotes.
I saw the sequel last night and found myself still annoyed by the brand of humor, but I did laugh out loud a number of times, and the cameos were completely insane. I agree the story was better too.

I can't think of one movie where I HATED the first one so much that I was looking forward to a second and hoping it was better. Doesn't sound like Will Ferrell's humor is up your alley. As much as I enjoy his other movies, the first Anchorman is far and away his best and easily one of the best comedies in the past decade.

We brought a flask into the movie, it's one of those kind of movies that are funny and even funnier to watch while drinking. Some really interesting cameos. The whole scene about being gay are you a vampire is not in the movie. We did crack up at the fried chicken scene. In fact that was one of the most randomly funny jokes in a movie.

I thought the funniest joke (for me) was the - "A black man follows me when it's sunny" - "Brick, that's just your shadow"

I liked this better than the first film. Maybe it's because I work in news, but I really appreciated the satirical elements and the story about how sensational and idiotic news has become. It was nice seeing a goofy comedy that actually had something to say. Also Steve Carrell was hilarious.

I thought everything was fairly good until the last 20 minutes. The rumble in the park was completely childish. Even when Buster was made to be a hero with typed in dialogue seems really amateurish. They should have cut the film early. Then it would have been in about the same length as other comedies, 90 minutes.

What's funny is that he pretty much missed the entire performance yet gets credit for being there just because he showed up at the end.

The crowd I was with thought all the cameos were great until
popped up and sucked the soul out of everything.

I love the first film, but I was a bit let down by the sequel. The bits of random humor were usually firing on all cylinders, but the story killed any momentum the film has going for it at times. It didn't need to be two hours long and Wiig didn't need to be apart of it either.
The best part of the film? Stonewall Jackson. That whole sequence,

When Will Ferrell joked he made this movie for the money, I really don't think he was kidding. His record as of late has been a little spotty. Some of those cameos were kind of dumb but whatever it wasn't terrible, it's the Wayne's World 2 of sequels.
