He's a good actor, I just found Take Shelter to be his best work and Premium Rush to be his worst. It's amazing it's the same guy.

It'd be one thing if MM was good in those rom coms. He wasn't, they were awful, and it does make me second guess whether or not to see his films. Same thing with De Niro as of late. That's fine if you want to act in every film that comes your way, but I can't get excited over an actor who will star in anything. I question their judgment of quality, or whether or not they are just selling out, which is fine, whatever, but I will never make it a priority to see their films.
Drama is easier than comedy because I think people tend to be able to connect on different levels than with comedy. Drama can be emotional or cold, violent or nonviolent, etc., whereas with comedy, you either laugh or you don't. I agree that good comedy is underrated, no question. But just because someone doesn't want to do comedy doesn't mean they can't. If you were Leo, I guarantee you'd try to make as many movies with Scorsese as humanly possible. Who can blame him? Why waste your time doing comedy?

And the irony here is that The Wolf of Wall Street is a friggin' comedy. A black comedy, mind you, but a comedy nonetheless. So I'm not sure how Leo is oh-so-serious.

Yeah, I mentioned earlier that I enjoyed Leo here because he's flexing his comedic muscles.

Unsurprisingly, this is Scorsese's highest grossing movie to date, raking in nearly $400m worldwide.

What a movie.. wow. Technically it's perfect... though it's not something you really emotionally connect with, as it's dealing with pretty unlikeable characters. But you can't turn away from them either. I found it very similar to Casino (without the violence) in tone.

I'd definitely throw this in the lowest tier of Scorsese's output, not quite Cape Fear levels of insufferable, but close.

I love Scorsese. And I bought CF like 5 months on BD. Having never seen his version. For as much visual nature he put into it at times... I was kind of bored for the most part. Add in that Universal probably could've cleaned it up a bit too. HATED the look of the interiors for movie, felt fake.
Saying that... If Wolf is low tier... It's still a huge ass gap between CF and Wolf.
Also... I didn't like the music they chose to put in CF. Didn't feel organic enough. It seriously weirded me out hearing that music in this film. Disregarding how much I already loved it previously.

Couldn't disagree more. I said it before, but Wolf was easily Scorsese's best since Goodfellas, and is certainly top-tier for him, maybe not top-5, but close. Not to mention, it's a movie with so much energy, excitement and intensity, he makes the work of directors half his age look like stodgy old-farts by comparison.

Is it really pulling a QT if it was released a year before QT's first movie?
As for WoWS, I thought it was a nice return to form, Scorsese's best film since Bringing Out the Dead, which I always thought was underrated.

You know what I mean. Okay, QT pulled a Scorsese. The CF remake is more music editing than anything else. Scorsese used Hermann's score from the original for his remake.

Wolf of Wall street was excellent - had such a surreal feel to it - it didn't need to be 3 hours long but I honestly didn't mind too much.
