Yes it is (on both counts). I'll try it on another player later, though.

Re: Paul Walker has died.

Wondering if they put that out for HD-DVD players as well if I play my Fast and Furious discs with it connected to the internet? The stuff for Bourne Ultimatum didn't work when I tried it

Damn...that's quite the overload of cinematic mediocrity stuffed into one night of viewing. Taking one for the team.

(Pours one out for P-Walk)

I used to dismiss these movies as rubbish, but man have I grown to like them.

I don't think I've ever experienced BD-Live on anything I've watched.

Still haven't seen 4 but I think the first three are mediocre as hell. Fast Five happened and that changed everything. LOVE that one, meh script but great action. Fast 6 had the same issues as 5 but the action was better.

Re: Paul Walker has died.

I enjoy all of them quite a bit, but I am in the apparent minority that prefers the first few movies that were centered around the street racing scene.

Re: Paul Walker has died.

The first is still my favorite but that could partially be due to nostalgia. 5 & 6 are both fun films but they have a different feel to them.

"Producers had a string of meetings right after Paul's death. They soon realized they needed someone who looked like Paul to finish the movie and that's when they approached his nearly identical brother, Cody. They can shoot Cody from behind and at distance and if it's a shot they need Paul's face in close up they can CGI it later on. If Cody agrees it's because he wants to honor his brother's memory. There are many details that still need to be worked out, but right now the family and cast and crew are all still grieving."

The Nolan live Q&A with TDK was probably the highlight of the service. Hell 2008 was probably the peak of any major features.

That's when the franchise shifted gears (no pun intended) towards the heist movie angle. Shame they weren't willing to wait for Lin for 7, it remains an interesting what if, now more than ever.

The first one is decent, but not amazing. The second is so hilariously ridiculous that it was my favorite until 5 and 6 were released. 3 and 4 are both solid and pave the way for 5, 6, and beyond. They're all watchable and enjoyable.

There is a certain boldness in how gleefully ridiculous the franchise is willing to get.

Agreed on those 4.

However, 3 is unwatchable and 4 is just a notch above that one.

Re: Paul Walker has died.

I disagree. I thought the Fish out of water storyline in addition to the racing was a fresh take on the franchise. Unless a lot of the hate is specifically directed at Lucas Black. I can understand how not everyone would look his Good Old Boy persona in the movie. But thank God Justin Lin convinced Diesel to do that last second cameo. Otherwise, the movie would have been 100% self contained with no connection to the core group.

Also remember it did give us Han (Sung Kang), a character so popular, they continued to push the sequels to instead be prequels to Tokyo Drift. In fact, I remember seeing Fast & Furious (#4) and he was only in the beginning and mentioned going to Tokyo, so presumably at that time, the fourth one was the only movie to precede TD and the others would come after it.

Anyway, along with the insane stunts, the retcon they (namely Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan) did was equally as nuts

Re: Paul Walker has died.

4 suffers from being the most serious, but it's a necessary entry that effectively heartens back to the first. It's probably my least favorite, but I don't mind watching it when it's on.

I didn't see 3 until this week, and I don't see why it's hated. Sure, it's not the core group, but it's got Han and has maybe the best actual racing of the series.

He did, but TD was the film that brought him into the F&F franchise.

I liked 3 because of the racing. I need to get caught up, I've only seen 1-4.

Re: Paul Walker has died.

I was very shocked to hear the news of paul waker death. I can't believe that paul waker has been died in a car accident. He was one of my favorite actor of Fust and Furious.

Re: Paul Walker has died.

I enjoy the all F&TF movies. It's not going to be the same without Paul Walker.

Diesel was actually able to get a third Riddick movie off the ground because of Tokyo Drift. According to a story in the L.A. Times, test screening for Tokyo Drift, which was the third film in the Fast and Furious franchise, didn’t go very well. So Universal asked Diesel to appear in a cameo in the film to give it some continuity to the first two movies. At first Diesel demurred but agreed when Universal brought him in as a producer on future Fast and Furious films and on any future Riddick movies.

ding. ding. ding.

Only performance worse in this series is Devon Aoki. The good 'ol boy shit was obnoxious.

Han and the racing was pretty solid though.

The neon Tokyo atmosphere looks cool, and drifting is neat to watch on film, some of the set pieces are good, but even by F&F standards, the screenplay is kind of dumb. Or maybe it's just because relative to rest of the franchise, it seemed to have little relation to any of the others and just appropriated the name.
